Position Overview
Position reports directly to the Clear Lake Technical Manager and provides technical assistance for Clear Lake Plant and Bayport 2
EHA Unit operations. The role involves interacting with departmental managers and staff, and leading high‑priority variable cost, repetitive production expense, or operational asset utilization improvement projects across the site. No direct reports.
- Environmental (10%): support full environmental compliance and performance, review permit data and new permit applications, ensuring consistency with best engineering practices.
- Safety Goal (25%): support safety & health regulatory compliance (OSHA, PSM, company policies), respond to incident investigations, develop and implement action items, coach operators on safe work practices, and lead MOC and PUP activities.
- Operational & Technical Goal (50%): maximize operational efficiency and product quality by identifying, evaluating, and proposing improvement ideas across all technical areas; support plant initiatives for new product development, process technology projects, and debottlenecking; assist during plant turnarounds, emergency operations, and other technical assistance requests; drive OAU goals.
- Professional Development Goal (15%): develop technical, interpersonal, management, and community relations skills aligned with plant objectives.
- Understand and optimize site systems such as reaction, distillation, incineration, flares, utilities, tank farms, and cooling towers.
- Lead projects to improve quality, reduce operating costs, and enhance safety and environmental compliance.
- Train operations personnel and other staff in technical issues and new projects; attain Greenbelt Project Leader certification.
- Calculate and evaluate potential projects for raw material yields and utility usage.
- Interpret process conditions.
- Support plant initiatives for new product development, process technology projects, and debottlenecking efforts.
- Assist operations during plant turnarounds, emergency operations, and technical assistance requests.
- Participate in HES policies, safety programs, incident reporting, and the Clear Lake facility Acrylic Monomers HSE2Q Commitment.
- Pass a respirator fit test and use SCBA or face respirator; climb stairs, ladder cages, and enter confined spaces as required.
Education
:
Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from an accredited university, minimum.
Experience
:
Graduate of the Arkema Developing Engineer program or 2–3 years of equivalent industrial experience.
Skills
:
- Solid understanding of engineering fundamentals and ability to apply statistical methods.
- Six‑Sigma Green Belt and experience managing small projects.
- Comfortable with root cause analysis, process hazard analysis, and safety compliance.
- Effective communication, documentation, and presentation skills.
- Sound judgment in decision making and project leadership.
