ENERGETIC MATERIALS TECHNICIAN - 1st Shift - $24.00+hr/DOE

Clear Lake, SD.
Schedule:
Monday through Thursday, 5:45 am–4:15 pm. Non‑Exempt. Salary: $24+/hr (DOE).
Reports to:
Production Supervisor.
The Energetic Material (EMO) Technician will blend and process pyrotechnic and explosive material for use in production.
Essential Job Functions- Blends and processes pyrotechnic, primary and secondary explosive materials by reading, interpreting and following established procedures.
- Takes inventory and records updates for items processed.
- Fills and delivers containers of powders for production use.
- Drives company vehicles as needed.
- Moves energetic materials throughout the facility as directed.
- Responsible for some hazardous waste management functions, including moving containers, collecting samples, and deactivating materials.
- Assists others in the powder processing area as directed by supervisor.
- Performs other work‑related duties as assigned.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the United States (ITAR restrictions).
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be eligible to possess explosives under the Safe Explosives Act of 2003 as required by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for all employees of Tech Ord.
- High school diploma or GED required; three to six months related experience or training preferred.
- Obtain and maintain a driver’s license upon hire to drive company vehicles.
- Knowledge of production processes preferred.
- Ability to read and understand procedures and follow specific written and verbal instructions.
- Maintains a clean work area per Quality and Safety standards.
- Ability to communicate and document effectively in English.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel; ability to learn internal programs.
- Function specific RCRA training upon hire.
- Ability to work effectively with others as part of a team as well as independently, using time‑management skills with minimal supervision.
- Ability to multi‑task in support of end‑result/goal.

- Ability to talk and hear to communicate with others.
- Seated work up to 20% of the workday.
- Frequently required to stand and/or walk both indoors and outdoors.
- Must be able to use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms.
- Lifting of 10 pounds required; must be able to move materials by lifting, pushing or pulling up to 50 pounds, with assistance for greater than 50 pounds.
- Bending, squatting or kneeling required to move materials.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus when viewing a computer monitor.
- Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and explosives.
- Must wear a fire suit to mitigate the risk of burn when working with powders.
- Ear protection required as identified throughout the facility.
- When required, must wear a minimum of 50% cotton clothing including undergarments to mitigate electrostatic discharge (ESD). Must also wear company‑issued safety footwear.
