Our Aeronautics Systems sector is seeking a Composite Bonding Level 1 to join our operations team. The role involves working on bonds of dissimilar materials (composite, metal, or laminate) assemblies, parts, skins, components, equipment or structures into semi-finished or finished products. The position is located in Clearfield, UT.

Please note:

Only external candidates and Northrop Grumman employees who are not currently aircraft structures mechanics at the Clearfield site will be considered under this requisition.

Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret blueprints.
  • Lay out articles, cut parts or materials to size and apply liquid or solid bonding agents.
  • Understand ply orientations and vacuum bagging processes.
  • Operate autoclave, hydraulic presses and ovens to complete bonding cycle.
  • Control conditions of heat, pressure, and timing by setting and operating various controls according to material specifications and bonding agents.
  • Sand, burrs and smooth over areas; apply sealing resins to cut or exposed edges.
  • Monitor and verify quality of finished product.
  • Complete repairs on composite, metal or laminate bonded products using inspection and rework instructions; verify quality of finished product.
Position Requirements

This position requires no previous knowledge or work history working on aircrafts. The selected candidate will undergo up to 6 weeks of training before joining the shop floor. From there they will receive close supervision with detailed and written instructions and checks on work performance.

Basic Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED
  • DoD Secret Security Clearance and special program access required to start, but not required to apply
  • Ability to perform moderate strenuous physical and repetitious work, including bending, stooping, kneeling, carrying tools, lifting up to 50 pounds, working overhead or at heights, and accessing small, confined spaces
  • Must be able to access small, confined spaces and work in an enclosed environment
  • Ability to work flexible, changing shifts, including weekends
  • Must successfully complete and pass the “ASTAR New Hire Training / Compliance” within a reasonable time period, as defined by the company
  • Must be able to pass a New Hire Physical Exam and obtain and maintain a respirator clearance with all fitting requirements
Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of AFAB Certification (115
    - Structures, 120
    - Composites, 110
    - Blueprints, 130
    - Ethics)
  • Experience with hydraulic parts, aircraft fabrication, assemblies, components, and systems in aerospace, automotive, military, manufacturing and/or maintenance environments
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance with a recent background investigation and ability to obtain program access
  • Experience with structural subassemblies such as rudders, flaps and stabilizers

Salary range:
Primary Level Salary Range: $37,400.00 - $62,400.00. The salary range is a general guideline; base offers consider role scope, candidate experience, education, skills and market conditions. Overtime, shift differential, and discretionary bonuses may be available, depending on position. Long Term Incentives may apply for VP/Director roles.
