NG- Military Internship Program Description
The Northrop Grumman Military Internship Program (NG-MIP) is a Skill Bridge program that allows transitioning service members to gain civilian work experience during the last six months of service, up to 180 days. Participants are not compensated by Northrop Grumman and continue their military benefits. The program is open to all ranks and experiences.
Responsibilities for This Internship PositionInterns will be on-site and perform job‑training in an entry‑ to mid‑level career type role. They will work a standard 40‑hour schedule and engage in professional development, networking, and training on Northrop Grumman leadership principles, company history, customer engagement, product and service overview, and core job responsibilities.
DoD Skill Bridge Eligibility- Has served at least 180 days on active duty
- Is within 12 months of separation or retirement
- Will receive an honorable discharge
- Has taken any service TAPS/TGPS
- Has attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months
- Received written authorization and approval from Unit Commander prior to the start of the internship
Aircraft Structures Mechanic Level 2/3
Position Requirements
At least two years of aircraft‑related experience in manufacturing or production is required. Candidates must be able to perform moderate strenuous physical work, lift up to 50 pounds, work overhead or at heights, and access small, confined spaces. DoD Secret Security Clearance and special program access are required to start but not required to apply. Candidates must read and interpret schematics, assembly drawings, technical manuals, and test procedures, and work flexible, changing shifts including weekends.
Successful completion of the “ASTAR New Hire Training / Compliance” and a new hire physical exam are required. Respirator clearance and compliance with respirator fitting requirements are also required.
- Align parts on jigs using templates and fixtures
- Perform part‑fitting operations such as filing, sawing, burring, crimping, trimming, framing, riveting, drilling, and reaming
- Measure parts with micrometers and calipers to verify dimensions
- Modify assemblies to incorporate structural changes
- Monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) with at least 2‑year aircraft experience for Level 2 or 4‑year experience for Level 3
- Capability to perform moderate strenuous physical work, including bending, stooping, kneeling, carrying tools, lifting up to 50 pounds, working overhead or at heights, and accessing small, confined spaces
- DoD Secret Security Clearance and special program access required to start but not required to apply
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, assembly drawings, process specifications, technical manuals, written instructions, test procedures, etc.
- Ability to work flexible, changing shifts, including weekends
- Must successfully complete and pass the “ASTAR New Hire Training / Compliance” within a reasonable time period as defined by the company
- Must be able to pass a new hire physical exam, obtain and maintain respirator clearance, and comply with all respirator fitting requirements
- Active DoD Secret level security clearance
- A&P License
- Previous composite, manufacturing, or production experience
- Demonstrated ability using standard measuring equipment and power hand tools
- Ability to read and understand blueprints, technical specifications, and operating procedures
- Primary Level Salary Range: $44,400.00 – $74,000.00
- Secondary Level Salary Range: $52,700.00 – $87,900.00
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and discretionary bonuses in addition to base pay.
