This recruitment may be filled at the Utility Maintenance Specialist I, II, or Senior level. Applicants will be considered for the highest classification for which they meet the minimum qualifications.

Utility Maintenance Specialist I $20.79 - $22.87/hr High school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of experience in construction, maintenance, or repair of public works infrastructure (or an equivalent combination of education and experience). CDL with endorsements required within six (6) months of hire.

Utility Maintenance Specialist II $22.92 - $25.21/hr High school diploma or equivalent, Level IV Water Distribution System Operator certification, and three (3) years of experience in construction, maintenance, or repair of water distribution or sewer collection systems (or an equivalent combination of education and experience). Must possess a valid CDL with endorsements at time of hire.

Senior Utility Maintenance Specialist $26.53 - $29.18/hr High school diploma or equivalent, two qualifying certifications, and five (5) years of experience in construction, maintenance, or repair of water distribution or sewer collection systems (or an equivalent combination of education and experience). GENERAL PURPOSE

Performs a variety of lead worker and journey-level skilled duties related to the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of the city utility service system including streets, water transmission and distribution, and wastewater collection.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the direct supervision of the Street/Utility Superintendent, and the close general supervision of the Street/Utility Maintenance Foreman.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

May oversee Utility Maintenance Specialist I, temporary, seasonal and part-time laborers while in training or on a project-by-project basis. May function as a lead worker by assignment.

Examples Of Duties

May serve as a lead worker andor project leader; makes decisions related to procedures and processes as related to specific job sites; performs troubleshooting as directed.

Promote the organization's core values; lead by example; demonstrate confidence and the self-belief to try something new by searching for more efficient ways to perform tasks; coach staff by encouraging them to become innovative thinkers and hone their problem‑solving skills. Instill the importance of communication and working together as a team.

Receives daily assignments; takes assigned equipment, materials and manpower to the appropriate site and completes the project as directed by the Street/Utility Superintendent, or Street/Utility Maintenance Foreman.

Ensures proper work site safety procedures are being followed; using and wearing appropriate safety equipment, sets up barricades, safety signs and signal equipment; may perform flagging assignments to assure work zone safety; attends scheduled safety training classes.

Streets

Performs, trains, and instructs employees in the proper maintenance techniques and procedures for various street projects, such as asphalt hot and cold mix, patching, storm drain maintenance/repairs and construction, grading, road base spreading, ice/snow control.

Instructs employees in the proper operation and maintenance of heavy equipment: trains operators in proper safety practices; oversees the setup of traffic control and safety devices according to established uniform codes and standards.

Operates heavy equipment such as single and tandem axle dump trucks, front‑end loaders, backhoes, bucket trucks, snowplows, street sweepers, asphalt/concrete saws and other similar equipment in the construction, maintenance and repair of various street projects and sites.
