No. In addition to the general staff RN job description, the WCU staff RN will be responsible for the care of women from childbearing through geriatric years and infants up to 28 days of life, supervising and coordinating care with other disciplines. This position is represented by RCHEA.
- Care for women from childbearing through geriatric years and infants up to 28 days of life, supervising and coordinating care with other disciplines.
- Accurately charges for patients and unit supplies.
- Administers and controls narcotics and medications.
- Administers IV fluids according to the PCS Policy and Procedure.
- Demonstrates and provides age-appropriate care, assessment, and plan of care for each patient.
- Communicates effectively with all members of the patient care team including patients, family, and physicians.
- Demonstrates safe techniques in the use of office and patient care equipment.
- Coordinates care and responds to emergencies in a prompt, precise, and professional manner.
- Develops an individual plan of care aligned to patient age, growth, and developmental status; sets nursing priorities accordingly.
- Documents assessments, plans, interventions and patient responses accurately in the clinical record.
- Evaluates outcomes, consults with other providers when required, and adjusts nursing care processes to ensure optimal patient care; implements the plan of care.
- Maintains required licenses, certifications, and education as outlined by administration and regulatory bodies.
- Maintains a clean, neat, and safe unit environment.
- Manages information effectively and provides concise handoff reports at shift changes or transfers.
- Performs complete assessments using age-appropriate techniques for each patient.
- Performs nursing duties per WCU Skills Inventory Checklist and Policies and Procedures.
- Provides and documents patient and family education.
- Delivers effective leadership by directing and/or delegating tasks to other health care team members under RN supervision.
- Willingly performs other duties and innovations as assigned.
- Basic computer skills.
- At least one year of labor and delivery experience; nursery and postpartum experience appreciated.
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
- Licenses and certifications:
Current BLS certification; RN license in the State of California; various certifications (e.g., ACLS, STABLE, NRP, Fetal Monitoring) as required by role; initial certification within specified time frames and recertification every two years where applicable. - All patient care personnel must be initially certified prior to patient care and recertified every two years in BLS.
- WCU and Nursing Supervision personnel must be initially certified within six months of employment and recertified every two years in NRP as applicable.
- Familiarization with crash cart and related equipment as appropriate for the role.
