Position: RN I, Women's Care Unit, Full Time, Variable Shift

RN I, Women's Care Unit (AHCL)

The WCU staff RN will be responsible for the care of women from childbearing through geriatric years and infants up to 28 days of life, supervising and coordinating care with other disciplines.

In addition to the general staff RN job description, the WCU staff RN will:

  • Accurately charge for patients and unit supplies.
  • Administer and control narcotics and medications.
  • Administer IV fluids according to the PCS Policy and Procedure.
  • Communicate effectively with all members of the patient care team including patients, family and physicians.
  • Compassionately provide care to patients acknowledging physiological, psychological and developmental needs.
  • Demonstrate correct and safe techniques in the use of office and patient care equipment.
  • Demonstrate the ability to handle emergency situations in a prompt, precise and professional manner.
  • Develop an individual plan of care specific to each patient’s age, growth and developmental status. Set priorities for nursing actions in a logical sequence.
  • Document patient assessment, plan, interventions and patient’s response in the clinical record appropriately.
  • Evaluate outcomes for patient care. Consult with other providers as required and adjust nursing care processes as necessary to ensure optimal patient care. Implement the plan of care. Demonstrate the necessary knowledge and skills to provide safe and effective care for patients.
  • Maintain and meet expectations on time for all competencies, license, certifications and education requirements as outlined by local administration, Adventist Health (AH), The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and all other regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain the unit and patient care area in a clean, neat and safe environment.
  • Manage information effectively. Provide a concise and accurate report at end of shift or when transferring a patient.
  • Perform an appropriate and complete assessment for each patient assigned utilizing assessment techniques specific to the patient’s age, growth and developmental status.
  • Perform nursing duties as delineated in and according to the guidelines found in the WCU Skills Inventory Checklist and WCU Policies and Procedures.
  • Provide and document appropriate patient and family education.
  • Provide effective leadership by directing and/or delegating tasks to other members of the health care team who provides direct patient care under the supervision of an RN.
  • Willingly perform other duties and innovations as assigned.

This job requires frequent bending (including the body bending from the waist), squatting, kneeling, climbing, work with arms above shoulder height, work with arms at shoulder height, standing, talking, hearing and performing repetitive hand motions. This job requires frequent transferring of patients including pulling, lifting or pushing a patient side to side, to a sitting position, to a standing position, or laterally.

The employee will frequently push patients in wheelchairs, gurneys and beds. The employee must demonstrate a pull lift of 50 pounds from the floor. Vision requirements include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will occasionally be sitting and walking inclines and declines. The employee will not be driving or climbing ladders.

This job requires potential exposure to blood/body fluids. Protective measures should be used while engaged in Category 1 tasks with exposure potential.
