Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Location – Clearwater, FL

Salary – $110,000 – $145,000 per annum

Our client is seeking a Senior R&D Engineer to support and help lead their growing research and product development function.

This is a senior-level role suited to an engineer who enjoys combining hands-on technical analysis with project leadership, supporting the development and optimization of engineered equipment through computational modeling, testing, and design refinement. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering leadership, contributing to new product development, performance validation, and continuous improvement initiatives.

The Senior R&D Engineer will ideally have the following attributes:

• Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
• 8+ years of engineering experience with a strong focus on fluid dynamics and product development
• Demonstrable experience performing CFD analysis for fluid flow, pressure drop, and performance optimization
• Hands-on experience with commercial CFD tools (ANSYS Fluent/CFX, STAR-CCM+, OpenFOAM, or similar)
• Strong understanding of fluid mechanics, turbulence modeling, and numerical simulation methods
• Proficiency with CAD tools such as Solid Works, Inventor, or similar
• Experience correlating CFD results with physical testing or empirical data
• Strong technical documentation and communication skills
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team
• Prior experience in water, wastewater, or industrial process equipment is highly desirable

The Senior R&D Engineer's duties will involve:

• Leading and executing CFD studies to evaluate and optimize product performance
• Developing simulation models, including boundary conditions, meshing strategies, and solver settings
• Analyzing and interpreting CFD results to support engineering design decisions
• Supporting new product development from concept through validation and release
• Collaborating with design, manufacturing, and testing teams to refine equipment designs
• Validating analytical results through physical testing and performance data comparison
• Preparing clear technical reports, design justifications, and engineering recommendations
• Supporting continuous improvement initiatives for existing products and systems
