EHS Engineer

Dynamet Incorporated, based in Clearwater, Florida, is a leading domestic and international supplier of titanium alloy products. Acquired by Carpenter Technology in 1997, Dynamet supplies titanium bar, wire, fine wire, strip, and precision shapes for the aerospace, medical, consumer, motorsports and recreation industries. Committed to offering excellence and innovation in the manufacture of titanium and other specialty metal products, Dynamet ensures strict quality controls through its testing and analysis laboratory.

Dynamet maintains a second manufacturing facility in western Pennsylvania.

Responsibilities
  • Identify, analyze and control occupational hazards and promote worksite or product safety by applying knowledge of industrial processes, mechanics, psychology, physiology, and industrial health, safety and environmental laws.
  • Assist in the design of protective equipment or safety devices for machines, and redesign of machines and plant equipment to eliminate occupational hazards.
  • Review proposed occupational safety policies, guidelines and standards for consistency with engineering principles and recommend technical changes as needed.
  • Participate in moderately complex multi-disciplinary project teams to design and implement EHS related projects.
  • Project management includes technical ability for design.
  • Maintain and apply knowledge of current policies, regulations and industrial processes to determine compliance with standards.
  • Provide input into recommendations of process and product safety features that reduce employees’ exposure to chemical, physical and biological hazards.
  • Install safety devices on machinery, or direct device installation.
  • Investigate industrial accidents, injuries or occupational diseases to determine root cause and preventative measures.
  • Review plans and specifications for construction of new machinery, equipment and facilities to determine whether all safety requirements have been met.
  • Report or review findings from accident investigations, facilities inspections, or environmental testing.
  • Identify information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities and detecting changes.
  • Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma with 7-9 years of experience, or an associate’s degree with 5-8 years of experience, or a four-year college degree in related safety science field or engineering with 4 years of experience is required.
  • CSP, CIH or other professional certificates preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading moderately complex, multi-disciplinary project teams successfully (delivered expected results, on plan, within budget).
  • Experience with air pollutant sampling, air pump sampling, dynamo meters, sound measuring apparatus, and respirator fit testing.
  • Knowledge of practical applications of engineering science and technology; knowledge of applicable local, state and federal laws; general knowledge of production processes and quality control.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, well organized, and the ability to prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions.
  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing work environment.
