Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Engineer Overview

We are seeking an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Engineer to support the development and implementation of workplace safety, environmental compliance, and risk mitigation programs. This role focuses on identifying and controlling occupational hazards, ensuring regulatory compliance, and improving overall safety performance in industrial or manufacturing environments.

The EHS Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design safer processes, implement engineering controls, and promote a culture of safety while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities Safety & Risk Management
  • Identify, evaluate, and control workplace hazards using engineering and administrative solutions
  • Conduct hazard assessments and recommend corrective actions to reduce risk
  • Promote a strong safety culture and support initiatives to improve employee well-being
  • Assist in the design or modification of machinery, equipment, and protective systems to eliminate hazards
  • Review engineering plans, equipment specifications, and facility designs to ensure compliance with safety standards
  • Support installation or implementation of safety devices and engineering controls
Regulatory Compliance
  • Maintain and apply knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal environmental, health, and safety regulations
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and internal policies
  • Review and recommend updates to safety procedures, policies, and guidelines
  • Investigate workplace incidents, injuries, and occupational illnesses
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement preventive measures
  • Document and report findings from investigations and inspections
  • Support environmental monitoring and industrial hygiene programs, including air quality, noise, and exposure assessments
  • Utilize tools and techniques such as air sampling, sound measurement, and respirator fit testing
Project Management
  • Participate in or lead moderately complex EHS projects involving cross-functional teams
  • Support planning, execution, and completion of safety and environmental initiatives
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time and within scope
  • Conduct facility inspections and audits to identify areas for improvement
  • Analyze data to detect trends and recommend corrective actions
  • Promote continuous improvement in safety standards, environmental compliance, and operational processes
Qualifications Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety, Safety Science, or a related field preferred
  • Alternatively:
  • Associate’s degree with 5–8 years of relevant experience, or
  • High school diploma with 7–9 years of relevant experience
  • Minimum of 4+ years of experience in EHS, safety engineering, or related field
Certifications (Preferred)
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or similar credentials
Technical Knowledge
  • Understanding of environmental, health, and safety regulations and standards
  • Knowledge of engineering principles related to hazard control and process safety
  • Familiarity with industrial processes, manufacturing operations, and quality control
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analysis
  • Ability to manage projects and collaborate across teams
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
Environmental & Testing Experience (Preferred)
  • Experience with environmental and industrial hygiene monitoring methods, including:
  • Air sampling and air pump usage
  • Noise measurement
  • Respirator fit testing
  • Exposure assessment tools
