Mechanical Engineer (Mid to Senior Level)
Job Description
This Mechanical Engineer (Mid to Senior Level) role focuses on the design, development, testing, and production of mechanical and electro-mechanical industrial equipment used in the washing and sanitizing industry. You ensure that products align with customer requirements as communicated by Sales and Applications Engineering, while collaborating closely with electrical engineering, procurement, manufacturing, and testing teams to deliver high-quality equipment. You contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance products and processes, and you support the Service Department by providing technical assistance and releasing replacement parts and assemblies for a large installed base of equipment in the field.
Responsibilities
+ Design, develop, test, and support the production of mechanical and electro-mechanical industrial equipment used in washing and sanitizing applications.
+ Translate customer requirements, as communicated by Sales and Applications Engineering, into practical, manufacturable mechanical designs.
+ Collaborate closely with electrical engineering, procurement, manufacturing, and testing teams to ensure successful product development and production.
+ Use 3D modeling software and 2D drawings to create, modify, and maintain accurate mechanical designs and documentation.
+ Apply principles of mechanical engineering, including the practical application of engineering science and technology, to improve design and production outcomes.
+ Identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities in products and internal engineering processes.
+ Work with the product development team to create new and improved products that address customer pain points and support entry into new markets.
+ Support the Service Department by providing technical support for fielded equipment and by releasing replacement parts and assemblies.
+ Balance customer requirements with technical feasibility and manufacturability throughout the project lifecycle.
+ Leverage technical resources from vendors and suppliers to enhance designs, resolve issues, and optimize component selection.
+ Handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, managing priorities and deadlines effectively.
+ Collaborate with fellow engineers, sharing knowledge and participating in mentoring activities as appropriate.
+ Incorporate design for manufacturability (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) principles into mechanical designs.
+ Develop designs for sheet metal components and welded parts when required.
+ Adapt to new technologies, systems, and tools used within the engineering and production environment.
+ Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including models, drawings, and related records, in alignment with internal standards and systems such as PDM, Vault, ERP, or CRM tools where applicable.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
+ Minimum of 3 to 6 years of experience in a mechanical, applications, or manufacturing engineering role within a company involved in manufacturing equipment or manufacturing processes.
+ Proven experience designing mechanical components and systems, including machine design and mechanical design for industrial equipment.
+ Proficiency with 3D modeling software such as Solid Edge, Solid Works, Inventor, or Pro/E, and experience creating 2D drawings with tools such as AutoCAD.
+ Strong knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology to the design and production of goods and services.
+ Demonstrated ability to balance customer requirements with technical feasibility and manufacturability in project work.
+ Ability to work effectively within a cross-functional team, collaborating with engineering, procurement, manufacturing, and testing functions.
+ Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and to set and manage priorities.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
+ Passionate, detail-oriented, independent-thinking, and self-starting approach with a strong motivation to complete tasks and projects.
