Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery Physician Assistant at Morton Plant Hospital

Position Overview

Bay Care Medical Group, is seeking a skilled, compassionate and experienced Physician Assistant (PA) to join our busy and dynamic Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery team. As a PA, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to patients undergoing cardiovascular and thoracic procedures. You will work closely with our surgeons, advanced practice providers, and other healthcare professionals to manage preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care of cardiac patients including ICU, OR, and floor coverage.

Our ideal candidate will be flexible, and energetic with two or more years of experience as an advanced practice provider working in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery including OR first assist.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with evaluating patients preoperatively, including history-taking, physical exams, and ordering diagnostic tests.
• Assist in performing cardiovascular and thoracic surgical procedures under the supervision of the attending surgeon.
• Provide postoperative care, including monitoring patient progress, managing complications, and educating patients and families.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient care plans.
• Perform patient rounds in the ICU, step-down units, and on the floors.
• Participate in patient education, including pre-surgical counseling and postoperative instructions.
• Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation in the electronic health record (EHR)
• Call includes 7 shifts per month and one weekend.
• Maintain privileges at Morton Plant and St. Anthony's Hospitals

• Outpatient consultative and follow up care and will include St. Anthony’s Hospital in St. Petersburg.
• Call consists of 7 shifts per month, including one weekend.
• Candidates with cardiac and ICU experience are preferred.
• Ideal candidate should be flexible, affable, creative, energetic, and can show compassion while working with patients.

The team of five surgeons performs a comprehensive spectrum of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery services including coronary artery bypass grafting, valve repair and replacement, complex aortic surgery, endovascular treatment of aneurysms, minimally invasive cardiac valvular surgical procedures, and arrhythmia surgery. Additionally, the practice performs VATS lung and pleural surgery. The physicians participate in a mature and growing Structural Heart and Advanced Valve Care Center and play an active role in TAVR, Mitra Clip, and other structural heart procedures.

Position requires:
Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program, Board certification as an Acute Care NP or PA and experience in surgical first assist required, cardiovascular and thoracic surgery experience with endovascular vein harvesting is preferred.
