The Work You Will Do
- Conduct inspections using the established survey process to evaluate health care facilities for state licensure and federal certification requirements for Medicare/Medicaid participation.
- Document findings and complete written reports of survey results.
- Perform surveys as an individual, team member, or team leader.
- Complete the Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test within the first 12 months of employment, as required by law and agency agreements.
- Work during weekends, holidays, and emergencies, including potential travel to other counties or agency sites.
- Assist in disaster responses, which may involve working beyond normal hours or on extended shifts.
- Maintain at least 50% of required continuing education credits in geriatric care, in accordance with state regulations.
- Use computer equipment and software such as Microsoft Word and Outlook, as well as smart‑phone technology.
- Travel extensively, including significant overnight travel.
- Knowledge of nursing principles, practices, and techniques; human anatomy and physiology; state/licensure and federal certification survey requirements; data compilation, organization, and analysis.
- Ability to develop and implement monitoring programs and evaluate performance.
- Ability to understand and apply rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Strong prioritization, planning, organizing and coordination skills.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships and communicate clearly.
- Proficiency in oral communication, active listening, interview procedures, team dynamics, and performance evaluations.
- Proficiency in using microcomputer equipment and software to manage data.
- Ability to travel with or without accommodation.
- Capability to lift up to 25 pounds on a regular basis.
Licensure as a registered professional nurse in Florida and at least two years of professional nursing experience.
Continuing Education RequirementAs required by 400.275, F.S., each member of a nursing home survey team licensed under Chapter 464 must earn at least 50% of required continuing education credits in geriatric care.
Background ScreeningSuccessful completion of a criminal history check (state, national, and federal) is a condition of employment. Background screening includes fingerprinting through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
