.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Cath Lab / Pre-Post RN provides safe, high-quality nursing care for patients before, during, and after cardiac, peripheral, and electrophysiology procedures. This combined role alternates between the PCU/pre-post procedure care area and the Cath Lab based o n patient care needs, procedural volume, and department operations. The RN supports patient flow by preparing patients for procedures, assisting during procedures as assigned, monitoring recovery, completing discharge education, and responding promptly to changes in patient condition.

The position requires flexibility, sound clinical judgment, strong communication, and the ability to function effectively in both the Cath Lab and PCU/pre-post procedure care environments.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following major responsibilities apply to the Cath Lab / Pre-Post Registered Nurse role. This list is not intended to be all-inclusive, and additional duties may be assigned based on patient care needs, department operations, and leadership direction.

  • Provide pre-procedure care for patients, including nursing assessments, medication reconciliation, IV initiation, procedure-site preparation for catheterization, and review of the procedure with the patient.
  • Administer medications intravenously, orally, and intramuscularly as directed by the physician.
  • Monitor patient vital signs, implement post-catheterization orders, and clearly document patient progress in the patient’s electronic record.
  • Evaluate the patient’s condition at all times and notify the physician of any problems or changes in condition.
  • Perform CPR, defibrillate patients, and operate temporary pacemakers when necessary and within scope of practice.
  • Provide necessary assistance to patients, physicians, and clinical team members during emergency situations.
  • Assist technical staff as necessary to support safe and efficient operations.
  • Safely discharge patients from the facility in accordance with physician orders and established discharge criteria.
  • Complete accurate documentation of all patient data, assessments, interventions, medications, responses, education, and discharge instructions.
  • Maintain the Recovery Room/PCU pre-post area in a clean, safe, organized, and patient-ready state.
  • Provide patient assessment, monitoring, and interventions for cardiac, peripheral, and electrophysiology procedures.
  • Maintain moderate sedation competency and manage patients receiving moderate sedation under physician supervision.
  • Comply with sterile technique requirements in both cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology settings.
  • Prepare patients appropriately for planned procedures.
  • Maintain and operate image-processing equipment as competency allows.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of medications and supplies for Cath Lab and PCU/pre-post operations; notify the manager of reordering needs as necessary.
