About Hammer Haag

Hammer Haag is a rapidly growing, family‑owned steel fabrication company. With a culture that blends hard work and a friendly atmosphere, our company values every team member, from top to bottom. You’ll have the opportunity to grow professionally within a stable, rewarding company that prioritizes both individual contributions and the overall success of our team.

Position Overview

We are looking for a dedicated and resourceful Quality Engineer to join our steel manufacturing team. This position is not a desk job – most of your time will be spent on the shop floor working directly with fabrication teams to identify and resolve quality issues. As we continue to grow, you’ll be instrumental in developing long‑term solutions to recurring problems, providing corrective training, and ensuring that our manufacturing processes meet industry standards.

Your role will be critical in upholding the quality of our steel products as we scale.

Core Responsibilities
  • Inspect weld tests to ensure compliance with AWS codes and specifications.
  • Lead dimensional and visual inspections of fabricated materials, including weld preparations, final welds, final paint inspections, and mill tests.
  • Ensure all fabricated materials conform to drawings, shop standards, specifications, and applicable codes.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records for quality assurance and production control.
  • Identify and address discrepancies in shop drawings in collaboration with detailers.
  • Work closely with customers' inspectors during inspection phases and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Communicate fabrication defects and issues to foremen in a timely manner.
  • Assist shop personnel in interpreting codes, drawings, and specifications for accurate execution.
  • Perform corrective and preventive actions to address root causes of recurring issues on the shop floor.
  • Provide hands‑on training to employees to elevate performance and ensure compliance with standards.
  • Collaborate with the production team to continuously improve processes and sustain high‑quality manufacturing output.
Key Qualifications & Experience
  • 5+ years of experience in a Quality Control (QC) or Quality Assurance (QA) role within the steel fabrication industry, specifically on the shop floor.
  • Proficiency in inspecting and testing welds, including experience with AWS codes and specifications.
  • Certification as a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).
  • Demonstrated experience performing dimensional and visual inspections of fabricated materials, including final paint and weld inspections.
  • Proven ability to identify and resolve fabrication issues directly on the shop floor with a hands‑on approach.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with shop floor personnel, foremen, and customers’ inspectors.
  • A problem‑solver who can think critically and act quickly in a fast‑paced environment.
Required Skills & Personal Traits
