Job Summary

A Barnes & Noble bookstore is a gathering place for readers and the community. As a Barista, you are an integral part of the team at the heart of our cafés. You welcome customers in a cheerful and helpful way by saying hello, answering questions and consistently going out of your way to connect readers with the right beverages and café items.

You help unpack and stock deliveries and tidy our bake case and dining area. You work our registers in a quick and friendly manner, ensuring our customers receive a highly professional service.

Part‑Time

• Maintain reliable and punctual attendance for scheduled shifts.
• Fill scheduling gaps when possible, being flexible and responsive to the needs of the store which is open early mornings to late evenings inclusive of weekends and holidays.
• Approach work positively, performing assigned tasks with purpose and energy, working hard and reliably.
• Support and consider colleagues, going out of your way to help others and showing kindness.
• Remain cheerful with customers, consistently going out of your way to help them.
• Show aptitude and willingness to learn new skills and acquire new knowledge in the store.
• Enjoy being a barista.

• Use varied technology including registers, computers, tablets, and programs comfortably and efficiently.
• Develop strong merchandising skills to maintain café presentation and cleanliness.
• Run a register competently to serve customers quickly and reliably.
• Support receiving and unpacking deliveries and subsequent stocking.
• Make food and drinks properly with ease and accuracy, using drink recipe guides and other tools.
• Maintain café cleanliness through daily and weekly cleaning tasks.
• Follow FIFO practices and date product consistently and correctly.
• Support the book‑floor team when needed.
• Understand loss prevention, de‑escalation, and identify theft or problematic behaviors.

Work requires prolonged standing, repetitive bending, lifting, and a lot of walking. Collaboration with other stores may be needed if required.

• Build knowledge of beverage, bakery, savory options and gifting.
• Use this knowledge to maintain appealing café presentation.
• Support sales objectives such as new LTO items or café promotions.
• Make effective food and beverage customization recommendations to customers.
• Build knowledge for café retail execution.
• Use café training tools appropriately.
• Follow café safety, hygiene, and sanitation guidelines.
• Support key product and promotion success.
