Pinellas County seeks a motivated Urban Forestry Intern to support the County's tree planting and urban canopy assessment programs. The intern will work closely with the Urban Forester and Urban Forest Management Specialist to assist with planting events and community tree giveaways, help manage social media and website content, and perform GIS-supported field data collection, mapping, and analysis. This paid internship is designed for students nearing completion of a four-year degree or early-career professionals seeking practical experience in urban forestry, environmental management, and public engagement.
This Management Intern (Urban Forestry Intern) position is located at: th Ave Clearwater, FL 33762.
Work Schedule:
20 hours a week; flexible scheduling as operationally feasible
Internship Duration: 8 weeks with potential for an additional 8-week term.

What Will You Do?
* Program Support & Operations
* Assist with planning and executing tree planting events and community tree giveaway programs (site preparation, logistics, volunteer coordination, event setup/breakdown).
* Outreach, Social Media & Web
* Develop and coordinate scheduling of social media content (posts, reels, stories) highlighting tree planting, education, and operational activities.
* Draft website content (program pages, event listings, educational resources), ensuring accessibility and brand compliance.
* GIS, Mapping & Field Data Collection
* Collect field data on trees and planting sites using mobile apps/GPS-enabled devices (ArcGIS Field Maps, Survey
123).
* Produce maps and data visualizations to support planning, reporting, and public communication.
* Performs other related job duties as assigned.
What Do You Need
* Currently completing or have recently completed a four-year degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Geography/Geospatial Science, Urban Planning, Marketing, or a closely related field; OR an early-career professional seeking practical, hands-on experience.
* Foundational experience with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online) for data analysis and map-making.
* Ability to conduct fieldwork (outdoor tasks, walking on uneven terrain, lift up to ~30 lbs for event materials).
* Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to engage with the public and diverse stakeholders.
* Proficiency with productivity tools (e.g., Microsoft 365); basic graphic/layout skills, and CANVA experience are a plus.
* Valid driver's license.
Highly Desirable
* Experience with ArcGIS Field Maps, Survey
123, GPS-enabled field data collection, and simple dashboard/report creation.
* Knowledge of urban forestry practices (species selection, planting techniques, maintenance fundamentals).
* Experience creating content for social media (Meta platforms, X/Twitter, Instagram, Linked In) and basic web content management systems.
* Familiarity with Florida native species, urban tree health, and urban planting considerations.
* Experience working with volunteers, community groups, or public-facing events.
* Basic understanding of photography/video for content creation and accessibility best practices for web/social content.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Ability to apply computer applications and software.
* Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
* Ability to analyze moderately complex assignments.
