Field/Service Technician, Heavy Equipment Operator, Construction Labor & Trades, Installation Technician
Key Responsibilities
- Operate directional drill rigs and associated equipment to install conduit and other underground telecommunications facilities.
- Review construction prints, bore routes, utility locates, permits, and job requirements before beginning drilling operations.
- Coordinate continuously with the drill locator and crew to maintain the planned bore path, depth, alignment, and safe clearance from existing utilities.
- Perform equipment setup, pre-use inspections, routine maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of the drill rig and supporting equipment.
- Monitor drilling conditions, tooling, fluid systems, and production progress and communicate changing field conditions to the foreman.
- Follow company safety requirements, utility-damage prevention practices, traffic-control requirements, and customer construction standards.
- Assist with rod handling, potholing coordination, conduit installation, jobsite setup, cleanup, and restoration activities as needed.
- Complete daily production and equipment documentation and report maintenance, material, safety, or quality issues promptly.
- 3+ years of directional drilling or underground utility construction experience preferred.
- Experience operating HDD equipment and working around underground telecommunications, power, gas, water, and other existing utilities.
- Ability to read construction prints, utility maps, route plans, and locate markings and apply them in the field.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to coordinate effectively with drill locators, foremen, and field crews.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record; CDL is preferred when required for assigned equipment.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and around active roadways, excavations, and heavy construction equipment.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, kneel, and lift or move drill tooling, materials, and equipment as required by the position.
- Occasional overtime, night work, weekend work, and travel may be required based on project needs.
