Responsibilities

The COS Material Handler/Driver is responsible for receiving, filling, and shipping products accurately and efficiently, ensuring the safe transport and timely arrival of products to our customers and store locations. Duties include receiving, order fulfillment, product picking, wrapping and packing, stock replenishment, customer will call, and inventory cycle counts. The role also involves driving, route sequencing, order verification, loading and unloading orders into company/customer vehicles, return service, sharing customer feedback, and maintaining and repairing company vehicles and warehouse equipment.

A valid driver’s license is required at all times and must meet state and federal regulations.

  • Operates basic power equipment (i.e. electric pallet, walkie rider, sit‑down forklift) safely and efficiently to locate, put away, stack, and move products to the correct storage locations daily.
  • Receives product by unloading trucks using forklift, pallet jack, electric pallet jack, or by hand.
  • Ensures shipments received are in good condition and accurate by inspecting freight for damage, verifying quantity, checking against packing lists, and completing necessary paperwork.
  • Ensures all required products have verified bar code labels and readable Johnstone stock numbers by scanning products, printing labels, resolving labeling discrepancies, and completing necessary paperwork.
  • Fills orders by picking, packing items into cartons, stacking them to minimize damage, scanning with a scan gun, and completing necessary paperwork.
  • Documents the shipment of hazardous materials by labeling cartons correctly and completing necessary paperwork.
  • Prepares orders by palletizing and wrapping orders, loading pallets and pieces into trucks, placing packing list in last skid, and completing necessary paperwork.
  • Maintains current accuracy and efficiency standards and follows all standard operating procedures.
  • Participates in inventory cycle counts and other related projects as assigned.
  • Assists in the maintenance and upkeep of all warehouse machinery and equipment.
  • Maintains a safe work environment, follows safety rules, keeps the work area clean, and promptly reports any safety or maintenance concerns.
  • Wears protective equipment according to company policies and accesses Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) as needed.
  • Maintains required hazardous materials, forklift, and other certifications as needed.
  • Maintains professional communications and treats customers and coworkers with courtesy.
Driving Responsibilities
  • Maintains positive relationships with customers by providing exceptional service that includes accurate and timely delivery of products.
  • Serves as a key field contact for gathering accurate customer service and delivery expectations.
  • Safely operates company vehicles and equipment consistent with DOT, state, federal, and company standards.
  • Maintains cleanliness of the inside of truck, cab, box, and all assigned work areas.
  • Performs routine inspections and preventative maintenance on assigned vehicle(s)/equipment; reports defects promptly.
  • Loads and unloads trucks and verifies deliveries against sales and transfer orders.
  • Prepares routes and follows schedules and deadlines for delivery, shipping, receiving, and other related tasks.
  • Drives straight‑body vehicles including box truck to deliver supplies and equipment to customers or other store locations.
  • Maintains telephone or radio contact with supervisor for expedited delivery instructions, using communication methods safely.
  • Immediately communicates delivery, traffic, safety, and customer issues to supervisor.
  • Records sales and/or delivery information; completes manifest with pictures, signatures, and any returns by iPad or manual completion.
  • Returns vehicle at the end of day, verifies it is fully fueled, completes monthly driver log and related paperwork, and secures the vehicle.
  • Returns gas receipts, monies, vehicle inspection logs, and any other necessary paperwork.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
