Principal Function

The Minister of Music is called to lead the music programs of the church. The Minister of Music also recruits, trains, and oversees all volunteer music positions. The Minister of Music is responsible to the church under the supervision of the senior pastor.

Responsibilities

Lead the congregation in singing and direct the choirs/bands in the worship services.

Organize, direct, and teach the choirs/bands through weekly rehearsals for regular participation in church worship services and activities.

Supervise all music personnel and implement and maintain descriptions of their positions.

Enlist soloists and singing groups for special music and give direction to them in the selection of music.

Secure necessary materials to maintain the music program within the budget. Organize the current music materials to use when possible and maintain music library with assistance of music volunteer(s).

Average a minimum of 12 hours per week.

Follow the pastor’s leadership in planning the church worship services, and coordinate with other staff.

Be accountable to the Personnel Committee and Pastor.

Engage in church visitation as directed by the pastor with particular emphasis on enlistment of prospective members in music program of church.

Serve on the Church Council.

Other duties as assigned by the pastor.

Have an understanding of vocal range and abilities to lead congregation with musical excellence.

Be able and willing to read music and direct accordingly.

Be able and willing to direct special musical services (choir concerts, cantatas, plays, etc.)
