Primary

Purpose:

Provide for the safety of the students, faculty, and staff and assist in implementing procedures that will ensure the protection of the campus personnel and property.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification

High School diploma or equivalent

Experience in secondary school campus monitoring and/or student supervision, is preferred. Must possess (or obtain) and maintain a Standard Red Cross First-Aid and CPR Certificate.

Special Knowledge/Skills

Knowledge of approved District procedures and techniques in supervising and disciplining students.

Knowledge of district policies, rules, regulations, and applicable sections of Education Codes that apply to the conduct of students and nonstudents.

Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy to maintain positive relationships with students and adults.

Ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, administrators, law enforcement and general public both orally and in writing.

Ability to demonstrate strong, empathic listening and interpersonal relations skills.

Ability to administer standard first aid and CPR.

Ability to interpret and understand a variety of instructions given through written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Ability to work independently with little direction.

Major

Responsibilities and Duties:

* Patrol and monitor the building and grounds of a secondary campus, adjacent areas, and other facilities. May temporarily monitor students inside/outside classrooms.

* Observe student behavior to assure compliance with school district rules, regulations, and policies; take appropriate action when students are found in violation; may be required to give testimony at hearings.

* Communicate with law enforcement departments (SRO's) for emergency situations and/or assistance with other law enforcement matters when authorized by administration.

* Direct or escort visitors to the office who do not have proper visitation permits.

* May train site employees in the use of security systems and visitor management systems, as needed.

* Report unusual activity or unauthorized visitors to an administrator.

* Escort students on referrals to office.

* Respond to needs of faculty, staff, students and administrators regarding student confrontations or other inappropriate behavior that may compromise the safety of the campus; may be required to intercede in student confrontation.

* Enforce parking and traffic regulations on district property; issue warnings/citations as necessary.

* Assist with directing and monitoring traffic during heavy traffic times on/off campus; oversee the loading and unloading of school buses.

* Administer standard First aid/CPR when necessary; report any injuries to school nurse, secretary, or administrator.

* Operate a golf cart, communication devices and other equipment as assigned.

* Direct and monitor students in all emergency drills and emergency situations.

* Prepare reports and maintain records/logs related to job responsibilities.

* Meet regularly with campus administration and collaborate with all campus security staff to review security practices, procedures and/or concerns regarding the assigned school site.

* Attend professional development workshops and training, as required by site administrator.

* Perform related duties as assigned.
