Summary
The Material Handler is responsible for loading, unloading and moving materials within or near the plant, yard or work site.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesTo perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform the following essential duties satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned to address business needs and changing business practices.
- Receives, processes and tags incoming material
- Moves inventory materials to their respective area
- Issues parts to areas of work in process
- Uses steel cutters, crowbar, clawhammer or other hand tools to open containers.
- Performs cycle counting and physical inventories
- Maintains equipment in clean, good working order
- Documents and enters inventory information into the computer system
The following generally describes requirements to successfully perform the assigned duties.
Minimum Qualifications- Experience in forklift operations
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including, but not limited to, steel toed boots, goggles, ear plugs, gloves
- Proficient in computer software applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook
- Ability to communicate and collaborate professionally, both verbally and in writing, at all levels
- Ability to organize and prioritize projects and information with accuracy, under tight time frames, to meet organizational needs
- Ability to set goals independently and take initiative to accomplish them
- Materials or warehouse experience
- One + years work experience as a material handler in an industrial setting
- Proficient with the American Association of Railroads (AAR) and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) industry and customer requirements
Physical Requirements Work Environment
The physical environment requires the employee to work in hot and cold environments, in and out of the weather, work safely around heavy equipment and on top of and under railcars, as well as around railroad tracks. Employees are required to use personal protective equipment such as steel toe boots, hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, welding and grinding shields, etc.
