Responsibilities- Administer and manage Nursing Services to residents in accordance with physician orders and residents’ needs.
- Provide 24‑hour supervision of Nursing Services and direct the Nursing Department to maintain quality standards of care in accordance with Federal, State and company regulations.
- Assume responsibility for center operations in absence of the Administrator.
- Conduct the nursing process – assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation – under the scope of the State’s Nurse Practice Act and Registered Nurse licensure.
- Coordinate plans for total residents’ care that comply with physician orders, governmental regulations and facility policies.
- Communicate and interpret policies and procedures to nursing staff, and monitor staff practices and implementation.
- Participate in all admissions decisions, and visit prospective residents before admissions.
- Participate in daily and weekly management‑team meetings to discuss resident status, census changes, personnel or resident complaints or concerns.
- Ensure delivery of compassionate quality care and nursing supervision through adequate services and staff coverage, absence of odors, general cleanliness, prevention of pressure wounds, and maintenance of optimal resident functions.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and application of Key Clinical Quality Indicators, and proactively monitor and implement systems to achieve company thresholds.
- Collaborate with physicians, consultants, community agencies and institutions to improve the quality of services and resolve identified problems.
- Coordinate nursing services with all other departments including Therapy.
- Conduct competency testing on registered, licensed, certified and non‑certified nursing personnel.
- Establish, implement and monitor an infection‑control program to prevent disease and infection transmission.
- Prepare or review infection‑control surveillance reports, identify trends, develop corrective actions and submit reports to the QA Committee.
- Coordinate and/or develop ongoing QA activities for nursing services to monitor compliance with standards through rounds, interviews and record reviews; compile findings for the Quality Assurance committee.
- Assist the Administrator in preparing staff for inspection surveys, instruct staff on conduct and disclosure, address surveyor queries and implement follow‑up QA for nursing allegations.
- Communicate directly with residents, families, medical staff, nursing staff and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care, promote participation in care plans, and maintain high quality of care and life.
- Oversee nursing schedules to meet resident needs and regulatory and budgetary standards; assist in controlling nursing service hours and supplies, including recommending nursing personnel levels and equipment needs.
- Perform rounds to observe care and interview staff, residents, families or other interested parties.
- Make daily rounds and spot‑check documentation accuracy and completeness for new admissions, condition changes, occurrence investigations and discharge planning.
- Promote customer service and hospitality, respond to and resolve complaints or concerns from residents or families regarding nursing services.
- Monitor staff for compliance with OSHA mandates and facility workplace‑safety policies; develop procedures and incentives to promote safety.
- Supervise delivery of in‑service education to equip nursing staff with knowledge and skills for compassionate, quality care and respect for resident rights.
- Develop positive employee relations, incentives and recognition programs; promote teamwork, mutual respect and effective communication.
- Develop, maintain and improve nursing service objectives, practice standards, procedure manuals and written job descriptions for each level of nursing personnel.
