Utility Technician, Maintenance Worker
Compensation: $17.86 hourly
Position open until filled.
BRIEF DESCRIPTIONThis is a non-supervisory position. Duties include working in a team environment performing maintenance and repairing of water lines and taps, installation of valves, taps and tie‑ons, setting and repairing of water meters, installation and the maintenance of fire hydrants. This position is classified as essential within the Public Works Utility Department and will adhere to all policies and procedures pertaining to an essential worker.
The Water and Wastewater Utilities provide a vital and necessary public service to the citizens of Cleburne, therefore all employees of the utilities are subject to call out in the event of an emergency situation. This can include before, during, and immediately after a natural or man‑made disaster, terrorism, pandemic, and equipment or system failures. As the utilities are in continuous operation, emergency call out can occur at any time of the day or night and on any day of the year and can require employees to stay on the job for extended periods of time.
NECESSARYKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of safety regulations to work safely with equipment used in utility maintenance work
- Experience in working with various types of equipment including pumps, generators, backhoes, dump trucks, sewer jet machines, service trucks, wrenches, hand and power saws, jackhammers, hammers of various sizes, grinders, shovels, drain spades, drills and drill press
- Must have a working knowledge of hand tools
- Knowledge and ability to work on water and wastewater lines without contaminating public water supply
- Ability to read simple maps and drawings
High School Graduate or GED equivalent
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIREDMust have a Valid Class C Texas motor vehicle driver license and the ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record with the ability obtain and maintain a Texas Class B CDL with a tanker endorsement.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND SAFETY HAZARDSPrimarily in outdoors environment with the ability to operate indoors when needed. May be exposed to extreme heat and cold during summer and winter months. Works in trenches and confined spaces. Exposure to mechanical, electrical, explosive, fume, odor, dust chemical, and toxic waste hazards, using proper safety precautions. Uses good judgment to work safely and use equipment property; and must be able to work in ditches or manholes which may be filled with unsanitary water, debris, or sewer water.
Will be required to work during inclement weather.
