Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate conventional, special‑purpose, and numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts.
  • Fit and assemble machined parts into complete units, applying knowledge of machine shop theory, shop mathematics, machinability, and layout techniques.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications and tooling instructions to determine dimensions, tolerances, and sequence of operations.
  • Use hand tools, measuring devices, power tools, milling machines, lathes, band saws, bench grinders, and other equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of G‑code and conversational programming.
  • Service and maintain machines; perform operations, set‑ups, adjustments, cleaning, and prove‑outs on CNC or lathe machines.
  • Complete dimensional and visual inspections per print specifications and submit paperwork and scans into the system to report labor on jobs.
  • Repair and replace defective parts, and set up and operate lathe, drill press, grinder and other metal‑working tools.
  • Assemble components and controls, both simple and complex.
  • Machine materials other than metal, such as composites, plastic, and rubber as required.
  • Clean machine, tooling and parts and perform machine maintenance following 6S principles.
  • Adjust machine feed and speed, change cutters, and coordinate with manufacturing engineers when programming is faulty or machine malfunctions.

Some machines may be numerically controlled. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures and certify/test product.

Qualifications

Physical Requirements

Work may require bending and carrying up to 40 lbs. Sitting or standing for a minimum of eight hours per day.

Minimum Education Required

High school diploma or GED.

Experience

1–3 years of related machining experience. Post‑high school coursework or professional certification preferred.

  • GD&T knowledge and troubleshooting skills.
