JOB SUMMARY

Support Southeast Bat Hub's bat ecology research in the field and lab through a variety of monitoring methods, data processing, geospatial analyses, reporting, and contributions to the North American Bat Monitoring Program (NABat). Communicate and collaborate with Hub coordinator, principal investigators, current and potential partners, sub-contractors, and the public. Other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES
  • 55% - Essential - Manage and process data from an assortment of bat survey methods, primarily acoustic sampling, and implement rigorous data quality assurance/quality control measures. Utilize open-source and internally developed scripts and software, report bugs and requests for additional features, and assist with further development of tools primarily in Python and R programming languages. Update and create GIS maps and products and perform basic spatial analyses.
  • 20% - Essential - Regularly cooperate with Hub coordinator and principal investigators to manage multiple, simultaneous projects. Effectively communicate with current and potential federal, tribal, state, and NGO partners, sub-contractors, and the public.
  • 20% - Essential - Maintain and deploy bat survey equipment and perform a variety of bat field surveys (acoustic, roost counts, mist-netting, radio telemetry tagging and tracking, etc.) and vegetation identification and assessments, which will include some overnight travel.
  • 5% - Essential - Assist with statistical analyses, report writing, website publications and updates, and professional presentations and outreach events (virtual and in-person).
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Education:

    Bachelor's Degree in Animal husbandry, agriculture, or a related field and experience in agricultural research or animal care that is directly related to the area of employment. Work experience in animal care or agricultural research may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • Work Experience:

    2+ years related experience.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
  • Education:

    Master's Degree in Wildlife ecology or related field.
  • Work Experience:

    4+ years wildlife ecology, biology, natural resources, data science.
  • Rabies pre‑exposure prophylaxis or willingness to obtain it (cost will be covered).
  • Current USFWS permit to capture and handle bats would be a major bonus.
JOB KNOWLEDGE

Fundamental working knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures and ability to apply in varied situations.

Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.

Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
