Position Summary
Class C Lineman is an entry level lineman position in the construction, maintenance and repair of electrical overhead distribution systems. This position works at various locations and may require travel to another state depending on customer demands.
Essential Functions- Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair work of energized and de‑energized overhead systems.
- String overhead wire.
- Set poles and anchors.
- Assist with installing transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches and switch gear.
- Assist in replacing fuses in transformers and clear faulted circuits and systems.
- Frequently work with energized high‑voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others.
- Maintain company vehicles, equipment and tools in good working order.
- Perform all other related work as required to complete the job.
- 1–2 years of minimum experience required.
- Able to perform rigorous physical labor.
- Identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit.
- Familiar with induced voltage.
- Assist with installation and hookup of a single‑phase transformer.
- Safely set a pole.
- Work at heights and/or in confined spaces.
- Properly install and remove PPE and cover‑ups.
- Check voltage on transformers.
- Install and remove a service.
- Inspect rubber goods and PPE properly.
- Climb various structures (wood, steel, etc.) and possess necessary tools.
- Understand tying standard lineman knots.
- Create and use hand line.
- Understand grounding procedures.
- Know when and how to use Kellum grips.
- Identify different types of materials used in line work.
- Travel long distances on short notice when required.
- Work extended periods in various locations when required.
- Obtain a Commercial Driver’s License; preferred if held.
- Lift in excess of 50 lbs.
- Work outside, frequently in inclement weather.
- Willing to work overtime when requested.
- Willing to work outside normal schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, and feel, and reach with hands and arms.
Work EnvironmentWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. Noise levels in the work environment can be loud. This position is performed under outside weather conditions.
