Position: Camp Counselor - Field Studies (Evergreen)

Job Summary

Field Studies Instructors are responsible for planning, leading and implementing programs and experiences in outdoor environments. They are also responsible for the general safety of the participants. Programs include Field Studies, 4‑H Camp, Camp Wildlife, Camp Voyager, Adventure Camp, Camp Sewee and Camp Long. Other duties as assigned.

Job Duties Program Management (35%)
  • Assists in planning and teaching all components of the program/recreational areas assigned which may include: canoeing, teams course, high ropes, climbing wall, recreation, arts & crafts, swimming, tubing, paintball, games and archery. Assists and leads participants in special recreational events. Works with camp directors in creating the weekly schedule for camp groups. Is flexible to changes as needed.
Supervision (25%)
  • Counselors are responsible for the supervision and safety of all participants in their care. Leads campers to and from programs and activities. Identifies and responds to participant behavior issues. Communicates with parents about participants experiences and report any concerns to camp leadership.
Safety (25%)
  • Knows and understands all emergency procedures associated with the program. Is responsible for camper safety and their whereabouts at all times. Maintains accurate program records including incident reports, logbook documentation and daily CUMIS reports.
Equipment Management (15%)
  • Sets‑up, maintains and breaks down the site and program areas. Maintains inventory, returns all equipment used to storage area in good working order. Reports any equipment failures or replacement needs. Assists with routine cleanup of facilities used. All other duties assigned by the Program Director or Assistant Director.
Minimum Requirements

Education – High School or Equivalent

Job Knowledge

Fundamental Job Knowledge – Fundamental working knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures and ability to apply in varied situations.

Supervisory Responsibilities

No Supervisory Duties – Not responsible for supervising employees.

Budgetary Responsibilities

No Budget Responsibilities – No fiscal responsibility for the department's budget.

Standard Hrs: 40

Compensation Information

Band: $26,100.00 - $27,405.00

Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.

Essential Personnel Level

Normal Operations – Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on‑site during emergency situations.
