Community Engagement Coordinator

The Community Engagement Coordinator serves as the city's relationship builder and communications liaison, helping strengthen connections between departments, residents, businesses, community organizations and stakeholders. This position coordinates outreach efforts, supports community engagement initiatives, and gathers stories and information from departments. They assist with public-facing communications and ensure the communications team remains informed about projects, events and issues affecting the community. This position is exempt.

Fair Labor Standards Act overtime provisions will not apply.

Per Florida Statute 295.065, certain service members and veterans, and the spouses and family members of such service members and veterans, receive preference and priority, and that certain service members may be eligible to receive waivers for postsecondary educational requirements, in employment by the state and its political subdivisions and are encouraged to apply for the positions being filled.

Primary Duties
  • Coordinates city residents' engagement initiatives and outreach activities.
  • Attends and promotes public meetings, workshops, listening sessions and community events.
  • Builds relationships with neighborhood groups, businesses, nonprofits and civic organizations.
  • Serves as the primary communications liaison to city departments.
  • Gathers information on upcoming projects, programs and initiatives.
  • Maintains communication planning calendars and project tracking systems.
  • Conducts outreach to business groups, community partners, schools and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinates communication partnerships and amplification opportunities with local businesses and community members.
  • Assists with newsletter development and community storytelling.
  • Assists with the development and distribution of media alerts and press releases.
  • Drafts content for publications, website updates and community communications.
  • Creates flyers, brochures, ads, sales kits, profile sheets, and press releases.
  • Supports public information requests and citizen inquiries.
  • Coordinates communications for city-sponsored events.
  • Gathers content, photos, testimonials and success stories.
  • Helps ensure residents receive timely information regarding events and community activities.
  • Supports the overall function of the department through administrative duties, organization of promotional functions and events, and other related tasks as required.
  • Responds to incoming telephone calls and inquiries as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Public Administration, Community Engagement or related field.
  • Four (4) years of experience in communications, community relations, public relations or stakeholder engagement.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and writing skills.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License.
Essential Physical Functions & Environmental Conditions

Physical Demands Performs continual light work and occasional heavier work Requires frequent walking and standing, climbing, stooping, reaching, bending, good finger/hand dexterity and hand/eye coordination, good eyesight including color perception, hearing, and speech Involves regular driving of vehicle Work Environment Works inside in an environmentally controlled space; but will occasionally work in adverse environmental conditions (e.g., heat, cold, wet or humid conditions, bright/dim lights, dust or pollen, and traffic) for moderate periods of time during outdoor assignments.
