Delta State University Part‑Time Certified Police Officer

Position type:

Police Department and Campus Safety | Salary:
Hourly, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities
  • Protect life and property by utilizing effective crime prevention techniques.
  • Apprehend criminals and enforce university, state, and applicable federal laws, regulations, and policies.
  • May be assigned to traffic and crowd control, and securing buildings after business operations have ceased.
  • Act soundly without direct supervision and exercise independent judgment in emergency situations.
Qualifications
  • Physically fit, able to walk, run, climb, and crawl to the extent prescribed by the Board on Law Enforcement Standards and Training.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle, including car, truck, golf cart, ATV, bicycle, or other all‑terrain vehicles.
  • Board‑certified police officer, with certification as a law enforcement officer through POST (Peace Officers Standards and Training) or currently in the academy.
  • Valid Mississippi driver’s license.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Certified law enforcement officer through POST or currently in the academy.
  • Valid Mississippi driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior campus law enforcement experience.
  • Sixty hours of college coursework or an associate's degree or undergraduate degree in a related field.
Special Instructions

Attach proof of certification as a law enforcement officer from a POST agency in MS or another state, and be eligible for transfer if outside MS.
