Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Description
The Service Technician is hired by, reports to and is evaluated by the Service Manager. The Service Technician is responsible for diagnosing and performing standard mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic repairs as well as assembling equipment for Delta Ag Equipment and its customers. The Service Technician works in collaboration with the Service Manager, parts sales team members, sales team members, vendors, and customers to further the goals and objectives of Delta Ag Equipment.
The Service Technician must be self-motivated as most of their work is conducted without immediately oversight of management. Other job duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Service Department Responsibilities
- Inspects, diagnoses, troubleshoots and locates mechanical deficiencies on Heavy Equipment as assigned by the Service Manager/Shop Foreman.
- Utilizes diagnostic equipment properly.
- Determines the extent of necessary repairs, including identifying major powertrain overhaul needs.
- Prepares a quote on machinery for required labor and parts, as directed by the Service Manager and/or Shop Foreman.
- Repairs and/or replaces all components of diesel engines, hydraulic, air conditioning, electrical and suspension systems, drive trains, steering, braking, material handling and operator comfort systems.
- Reads, analyzes and interprets technical information from schematics, technical manuals, drawings and procedures and governmental regulations.
- Performs welding and brazing, fabricates and modifies parts, equipment, miscellaneous structures and attachments.
- Informs Service Manager/Shop Foreman on special parts orders, shortages and malfunctions.
- Completes all work orders (including warranty information) and time sheets in a legible, accurate and timely manner.
- Maintains a current knowledge of products, technology and models by participating in education opportunities and recommended training, reading technical and regulation publications.
- Keeps shop vehicles clean and serviced.
- Helps control expenses and produces as much quality work as possible.
- Helps maintain cleanliness, neatness and safety of personal workspace, building and lot.
- Completes work/repairs in a timely manner according to management standards.
- Maintains a safe working environment and adheres to company safety program at all times.
- Completes work/repairs in different settings (farm, shop, road, etc.) without immediate oversight by management.
- Develops and maintains open communication among employees, customers, vendors, partners, and suppliers.
- Encourages and promotes a collaborative working relationship between the parts, sales, and service departments.
- Works as part of a team, offering and seeking assistance when needed.
- Handles all customer questions, concerns, and complaints expeditiously.
- Reinforces a philosophy of “fix it right the first time” with each customer.
- Treats all customers with respect, and if an issue occurs involves the Service Manager/Shop Foreman for resolution, as needed.

- Ability to get around the dealership and grounds for various tasks.

- Ability to be on one’s feet for extended periods of time.
