Payroll Specialist

The Payroll Specialist is an integral member of the payroll team. The successful candidate will have previous experience processing payroll, setting up garnishments, and running report. This position is located on-site at our corporate headquarters in Brooklyn, Ohio.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the accurate preparation, documentation, distribution, and reconciliation of the payroll system.
  • Reviews the computation of pay and associated deductions for accuracy.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of local, state, and federal legislation affecting payroll; understands and follows applicable provisions.
  • Respond to and resolve any inquiries regarding paychecks or payroll reporting.
  • Ensures payroll issues are escalated and resolved promptly.
  • Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature.
  • Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project.
  • Perform thorough analysis of Paylocity time and labor system prior to uploading to the payroll system on a weekly/biweekly basis.
  • Process regular wages, overtime wages, PTO, etc.
  • Process, audit, analyze and review timekeeping, payroll and benefit deductions are made on a biweekly basis.
  • Search and gather data for registration to Paylocity of new jurisdictions to be set up as per payroll reports generated.
  • Work on various HRIS projects including, but not limited to, tax updates, system updates, and system migrations.
  • Maintain & process payroll records & reports for accounting of salary/wages due, accruals, deductions, and other payroll related duties.
  • Conduct periodic audits of accounts to ensure accuracy.
  • Provide accruals to plant division leadership for budget reconciliation.
  • Reconcile payroll prior to final calculation, processing, and validate confirm reports.

Requirements

  • Requires an associate degree or any equivalent combination of experience and education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
  • Requires a minimum of 2 years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of payroll principles, practices, regulations, and procedures
  • Knowledge of basic accounting practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal payroll and related tax regulations, legislation, and guidelines included but not limited to writs of garnishments, child support, levies, subpoenas, non-resident alien and US tax treaties.
  • Canadian payroll processing a plus
  • Knowledge of practice, methods, and techniques of process improvement
  • Skill in evaluating and analyzing technical payroll activities.
  • Skill in both verbal and written communication
  • Skill in preparing detailed reports.
  • Skill in performing details computations.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • The noise level in the work environment is low.
  • May be required to sit for long and/or extended periods of time.
