SummaryOversees the daily operations, maintenance, and compliance of the Metro Health System’s fire alarm, sprinkler, and related life safety systems across all facilities. Ensures all fire protection systems are fully functional, code‑compliant, and ready for inspection, testing, and emergency response. Develops and manages comprehensive fire and life safety programs, coordinates fire drills, and provides training for staff to ensure preparedness. Works closely with internal departments, Planning Design and Construction, outside contractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal fire codes, NFPA standards, Joint Commission requirements, and other applicable regulations.
Leads designated projects, preventive maintenance programs, and documentation efforts to support operational reliability and continuous readiness. Upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The Metro Health System.
- HS Diploma or passage of a high school equivalency exam.
- Meets one of the following:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology, Environmental Science, or another related field from an accredited institution.
- 7 years working in a healthcare facilities environment.
- 4 years of other compliance-related work experience.
- Previous management experience.
- Working knowledge of JC, CMS, NFPA standards, and requirements.
- Expertise in fire protection systems.
- Ability to read blueprints.
- Excellent record‑keeping and analytical skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Skilled in the use of computer basics, including e‑mail, word processing, and spreadsheets.
- Physically capable of performing frequent inspections of all areas within and around buildings, including but not limited to all departments, utility tunnels, roofs, equipment rooms, and construction sites.
- Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Technical training in any/all of the following disciplines: electrical, emergency power, mechanical, plumbing, medical air, gas, and vacuum.
- Applicable State of Ohio Contractor’s License.
- Knowledge of TJC, CMS, OSHA, ADA, and OBC requirements and standards.
- Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and ambulate intermittently during the day.
- May need to sit or stand for extended periods.
- See in the normal visual range with or without correction.
- Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
- Ability to communicate face‑to‑face, via phone, e‑mail, and other communications.
- Ability to read job‑related documents.
- Dexterity to use a computer.
