We are looking for a student Software Engineer/ Biomedical Engineer with a strong interest in the development, maintenance, and validation of software tools used for ophthalmic image analysis, clinical trials, and AI research initiatives.

Working under the guidance of the Computer Vision Scientist and EIARC leadership, this role focuses on building and supporting image analysis software, data pipelines, visualization tools, and validation workflows that enable reliable and efficient reading center operations. The position provides hands-on exposure to clinical research, AI-driven imaging analytics, and real-world healthcare data systems.

This role is ideal for students interested in computer science, biomedical engineering, medical imaging, or clinical research, with an interest in ophthalmology and translational AI.

The role offers remote or hybrid flexibility and opportunities for publication and collaboration with clinical and engineering experts.

• · Supporting Imaging preprocessing, registration, segmentation, and feature extraction tools
• · Assisting with data preparation and validation necessary for clinical-grade image analysis
• · Perform software verification and validation (V&V) to ensure accuracy, robustness, and reproducibility of imaging and ML outputs.
• · Validate algorithms against ground truth annotations, clinical reference standards, or expert-reviewed datasets

Document software designs, validation results, and workflows to support research publications, regulatory alignment, and translational use

Salary Range: $14 – $18 (Experience + Relevant Coursework)

• · Effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
• · General computer proficiency, including basic to intermediate use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
• · Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality

• · Familiarity with clinical research environments
• · Interest in medical research, imaging, or healthcare operations

• · Primarily office-based, with periodic time spent in clinical or research office environments

We are looking for students that will be able to work full time over the summer and then available to work part-time over the upcoming academic year.
