Stevens Engineers & Constructors has an excellent opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated Estimator to join our Cleveland Operations Team, based out of the Middleburg, Hts., Ohio office. The ideal candidate will have estimating experience for industrial construction projects in the steel, chemical, power, and gas & oil markets for the purpose of bidding on projects or negotiating contracts to perform the construction work.
The Estimator position is responsible for creating accurate and complete estimates, based on both conceptual design ideas and complete design documents.
The Estimator will also maintain a client‑focused approach and work well independently and as part of the project team.

Key Responsibilities- Develop scope for bid packages after reading, reviewing, and studying construction documents (specifications, plans, addendums, RFIs) to understand design intent and constructability.
- Prepare estimates with the proper level of detail for all design stages:
Conceptual, Schematic Design, Design Development, and Construction Documents. - Assist with maintaining the estimating cost database to ensure costs are up to date.
- Consult with clients, project team members, subcontractors, and material suppliers to discuss and formulate estimates, effect cost reductions, and resolve issues.
- Study specifications to assist the operations team in planning procedures for construction, including start and completion times and staffing requirements for each phase.
- Research construction documents and analyze specifications to determine estimated costs.
- Work with the operations team throughout the preconstruction process to review plans and specifications for constructability issues and determine general requirements.
- Review design documents for accurate pricing from subcontractors and suppliers, generate acceptable value engineering ideas, and prepare life‑cycle costing.
- Prepare quantity take‑offs and estimate costs of materials, labor, and equipment required to fulfill all contract provisions.
- Understand bid package creation and collaborate with the design team to ensure complete bids and provide the field team with the necessary information.
- Review subcontractor and supplier bids for conformity to contract requirements and determine acceptable bids.
- Present and explain project budgets to clients, designers, and operations teams.
- Maintain files of working documents as backup for the estimate, including current supplier price information.
- Support other estimating unit personnel as needed, including assistance with computer work and preparation of discipline estimates.
- Research, negotiate, and prepare purchase orders and subcontracts for awarded projects, including obtaining necessary insurance requirements.
- Prepare internal job setup documentation, including Award of Contract form, code of accounts, quantity sheet, and copy estimate file.
- Participate in pre‑job meetings with project management personnel.
- Bachelor’s Degree with major coursework in Construction Science, Building Science, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Five (5) years of professional experience in the construction industry, with three (3) years in industrial construction estimating.
- Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, Access, and construction/project management software packages (InEight, Primavera P6, Viewpoint).
- Ability to think analytically, demonstrate effective time‑management, prioritize responsibilities, and multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to understand and communicate basic construction concepts.
- Strong interpersonal and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to build solid working relationships with team members, vendors, and customers.
- Demonstrate a strong work ethic focused on results.
