Overview
Lawler Construction is a general contracting and construction management firm and we self-perform carpentry. Lawler Construction is seeking an experienced Working Superintendent
, preferably with union affiliation, with extensive experience in commercial construction projects and supervisory positions. Candidate is expected to be able to manage all onsite project activities, effectively communicate, and ensure the completion of the project.
- Establish and maintain a project culture that places high value on Safety

, and Quality - Manage subcontractors and construction site organization
- Understand, coordinate and manage the scheduling of subcontractor work
- Act as the primary liaison between Company, Client, and Contractor
- Monitor project schedule and work with project manager to maintain planned progress
- Directly interface with and maintain quality relationships with Clients, Architects, City Officials, and any other relevant Project Stakeholders.
- Plan and organize self-perform work
- Anticipate and organize necessary labor with project manager and company leadership
- Determine and obtain required materials, tools, and equipment
- Prepare and maintain complete and accurate records:
Daily reports, As-built drawings, Daily & special needs photo documentation, Extra work tickets, Payroll timecard maintenance & reporting for direct hire employees - Experience reading and interpreting drawings and specifications for ALL commercial construction trades
- Effectively communicate project documents to the necessary stakeholders
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with staff and subcontractors
- Interface with union officials from all trades for a smooth-running operation
- Ability to improvise, adapt and overcome issues as they arise
- Develop apprentice carpenters and ensure quality work product from work crew
- 7+ years of overall commercial construction experience
- 3+ years of construction experience, in a superintendent, project supervisor, foreman level, or similar role
- Experience on projects between $500k and $2 million or greater
- Basic project scheduling skills, or a strong desire/willingness to learn
- Experience reading and interpreting project specifications and blueprints
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project), and the ability to learn basic file sharing or virtual meeting software
- While most projects have historically been local to Northeast Ohio, a willingness to travel (in Ohio) on an as needed basis is preferred.
- Self-disciplined, professional, able to work autonomously and has a strong sense of follow-through
- Leadership, with the ability to inspire others and enforce contract scopes
- Results focused
- Detail-oriented and organized.
- Possesses strong communication skills, both written and verbal, coupled with the ability to remain calm, focused and effective under time pressure situations
- This position’s compensation is dependent on the skills and experience of the candidate. We expect to provide a total package that exceeds the general foreman rate for a Cleveland based union carpenter.
