Residential Plan Examiner
Under supervision of the Commissioner of Construction Permitting, examines residential construction documents of One-, Two-, and Three-Family Dwellings prior to construction to ensure compliance with laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations relating to construction, alteration, movement, enlargement, replacement, repair, equipment, use and occupancy, location, maintenance, removal, and demolition. Performs related duties as required that pertain to enforcement of the Cleveland Housing Code, the Cleveland Zoning Code, and the Ohio Residential Code.
This classification utilizes the working titles of Residential Plan Examiner, Interim Residential Plan Examiner, and Residential Plan Examiner Trainee, depending on the certification held.
Examine residential construction documents to verify compliance with relevant codes and regulations. Handle enforcement actions related to the Cleveland Housing Code, Cleveland Zoning Code, and Ohio Residential Code. Perform additional duties as required under the direction of the Commissioner of Construction Permitting.
QualificationsA High School Diploma or GED is required. A valid State of Ohio Drivers License is also required.
Applicants must meet at least one of the following requirements:
Ohio registration as an architect or professional engineer; five years of experience in building design and construction for residential or non-residential buildings; or successful completion of a trainee program pursuant to section 103.3.9.
- OBBS Residential Plan Examiner Certification – required at the time of applying.
- OBBS Residential Plan Examiner Interim Certification – required at the time of applying.
- OBBS Building Inspector Certification (full certification) – required at the time of applying.
Applicants must hold and maintain certifications throughout employment.
