Position Summary
The Safety & Risk Coordinator is responsible for leading Vallejo Company's day-to-day safety program by partnering with executive leadership, operations, Human Resources, and Safety Plus. This position combines field leadership, risk management, employee engagement, and regulatory compliance to create a safe, productive, and efficient work environment.
The successful candidate will not be expected to build every program from scratch. Instead, they will leverage the Safety Plus platform and external safety resources to implement best practices, maintain compliance, and continuously improve Vallejo's safety culture.

The Ideal Candidate- Understands the realities of heavy highway and underground utility construction.
- Can communicate effectively with operators, laborers, foremen, superintendents, project managers, and executive leadership.

- Believes safety and production can work together.
- Enjoys coaching employees rather than simply enforcing rules.
- Is comfortable using technology to improve efficiency.
- Wants to grow professionally as Vallejo continues to expand.
The Safety & Risk Coordinator will be supported by the Safety Plus safety management platform and external safety advisors.

Experience with all standards is not required. Candidates with strong heavy civil construction safety experience and a willingness to continue learning are encouraged to apply.
QualificationsRequired:
- 5–8 years of safety experience in heavy civil, heavy highway, underground utility, or industrial construction.
- Strong understanding of construction safety principles and OSHA requirements.
- Experience working with union work forces is highly preferred.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to travel between local jobsites.
Preferred:
- OSHA 30 Construction (required or ability to obtain within six months).
- Experience with safety management software (Safety Plus, KPA, HCSS Safety, etc.).
- CHST, ASP, or similar certification is a plus—but not required.
- Experience partnering with HR on workers' compensation, onboarding, and return-to-work programs.
