Position Overview :
The Self-Perform Project Engineer is a construction professional who supports the planning and execution of self-perform carpentry and general trades work. This role assists project leaders with project engineering, estimating, material takeoffs, field coordination, cost tracking, documentation, safety, and quality activities. The Self-Perform Project Engineer works closely with project managers, superintendents, field teams, trade partners, and other project stakeholders to help deliver work in accordance with budget, schedule, safety, quality, and customer service expectations.

Responsibilities:

  • Supports self-perform carpentry, finished carpentry, millwork, drywall, and general trades work in both the office and field.
  • Assists with material takeoffs, quantity verification, bid preparation, scope review, and procurement of materials and equipment.
  • Manages project engineering duties, including RFIs, submittals, drawing coordination, meeting minutes, project correspondence, and document control.
  • Assists the Project Manager with change management, cost tracking, forecasting support, and preparation of project financial information.
  • Assists the Superintendent with field coordination, workforce planning, daily documentation, material deliveries, and trade partner coordination.
  • Reviews construction drawings, specifications, and other contract documents to identify scope requirements and support issue resolution.
  • Plays an active role in maintaining a safe, secure, and quality-focused job site.
  • Builds positive working relationships and provides exceptional customer service to internal and external project stakeholders.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of construction drawings, documents, and general industry terminology.
  • Interest in developing knowledge of carpentry, finished carpentry, millwork, drywall, and general trades.
  • Ability to complete or learn material takeoffs, quantity tracking, and basic estimating activities.
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, and time management skills.
  • Effective problem-solving skills and a willingness to contribute to process improvement initiatives.
  • Competency in business writing, professional communication, and meeting documentation.
  • Ability to collaborate with project managers, superintendents, field teams, trade partners, and clients.
  • Competent or willing to learn construction software and project management tools.
  • Commitment to professional development and continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, a construction-related field, or relevant experience.
  • No previous experience is required; 1-2 years of experience in engineering, construction management, self-perform work, or a related field is beneficial.
  • Construction internship, co-op, field, or trade experience is a plus.
