Industrial Steel Fabrication & Construction Estimator
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Industrial Steel Fabrication & Construction Estimator to join our team. This role is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for structural and miscellaneous steel fabrication and erection projects. The Estimator plays a critical role in securing profitable work by analyzing drawings, specifications, and project requirements while collaborating closely with project managers, engineers, and clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and interpret structural steel drawings, blueprints, and project specifications
- Perform quantity takeoffs for structural and miscellaneous steel components
- Develop detailed and accurate cost estimates including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor pricing
- Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes
- Prepare bid proposals, scope clarifications, and cost breakdowns
- Identify project risks and opportunities to improve competitiveness and profitability
- Work closely with project management and fabrication teams to ensure smooth project handoff
- Maintain and update estimating databases, cost histories, and pricing tools
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client discussions as needed
- Support value engineering efforts to optimize project costs
Qualifications
- 3–10+ years of estimating experience in structural steel fabrication and/or construction
- Strong knowledge of steel fabrication processes, erection methods, and industry standards
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
- Proficiency in estimating software and takeoff tools (e.g., Tekla EPM, Bluebeam, Plan Swift, or similar)
- Solid understanding of material pricing, labor productivity, and market conditions
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
Preferred Experience
- Experience with industrial, commercial, or automotive-related steel projects
- Knowledge of AISC standards and fabrication best practices
- Familiarity with project scheduling and fabrication workflows
