The Sterilization Technician at Cleveland Dental Institute is responsible for ensuring that all dental instruments and equipment are properly cleaned, disinfected, and sterilized according to industry standards.

This role is critical in maintaining a safe and hygienic environment for both patients and staff. The ideal candidate will have a strong attention to detail, thorough knowledge of infection control procedures, and the ability to manage sterilization processes efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

Sterilization and Disinfection:

Perform thorough cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of dental instruments and equipment.
Operate and maintain sterilization equipment, such as autoclaves, ultrasonic cleaners, and chemicals.
Ensure that all sterilization processes comply with OSHA, CDC, and other relevant regulations and standards.

Infection Control:

Follow established infection control procedures and protocols to prevent cross-contamination.
Prepare and manage infection control supplies, including personal protective equipment (PPE), disinfectants, and barriers.
Monitor and document sterilization cycles, ensuring that equipment is functioning correctly and maintaining accurate records.

Inventory Management:

Maintain an organized inventory of sterilization supplies and dental instruments.
Order and restock supplies as needed, ensuring adequate levels are maintained to support daily operations.
Conduct regular checks of inventory levels and expiration dates of sterilization products.

Equipment Maintenance:

Conduct routine maintenance and troubleshooting of sterilization equipment.
Perform regular checks and calibration of equipment to ensure optimal performance.
Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs to the appropriate personnel.

Collaboration and Support:

Work closely with dentists, dental hygienists, and other dental assistants to ensure smooth workflow and effective patient care.
Assist with other clinical tasks and patient care as needed, providing support to the dental team.
Educate and train new staff members on sterilization and infection control procedures.

Documentation and Compliance:

Maintain accurate logs and documentation of sterilization procedures and equipment maintenance.
Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations and internal protocols.
Participate in routine audits and inspections to verify adherence to infection control standards.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a dental assistant program with a focus on infection control and sterilization preferred.
Certification: Dental Assistant Certification (CDA) or equivalent preferred; certification in infection control (e.g., ICE or similar) is a plus.
Experience: Previous experience in dental sterilization or a clinical setting is preferred.
In-Depth Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of sterilization techniques, infection control procedures, and dental equipment.
