The Roman Catholic Diocese of Cleveland was founded on April 23, 1847. Under the Leadership of the Most Reverend Edward

C. Malesic, Bishop of Cleveland, it is the twenty-third largest diocese in the United States. With 106 Catholic schools serving over 40,000 students it is the sixth largest Catholic school system in the nation. There are 185 parishes, 1 pastoral center and 1 mission office within the Diocese. There are just under 700,000 Catholics in the Diocese’s eight counties, and Catholic Charities-Diocese of Cleveland is one of the largest diocesan systems of social services in the world.

The diocesan Office of Catholic Education (OCE) leads and assists those who carry out the education ministries of the Diocese of Cleveland by providing educational guidance and resources, leadership training, and the support necessary for schools to deliver irresistibly Catholic, academically excellent education that is operationally sound.

The Catholic Diocese of Cleveland is seeking passionate, committed, experienced candidates for the role of Director of Curriculum and Instruction. Housed in the Secretariat for Catholic Education, the Director of Curriculum and Instruction is a member of the OCE’s leadership team and will report to the Associate Superintendent for Elementary Schools.

The Director of Curriculum and Instruction supports all aspects of the Office of Catholic Education that influence academic outcomes, teaching, and student learning. This includes overseeing the diocesan curriculum, approving schools’ curricular alternatives, and guiding diocesan efforts related to curriculum implementation, instruction, assessment, and instructional materials. The Director supports the administration of NWEA MAP Growth assessments. Using MAP and other measures the Director develops resources to build schools’ capacity for connecting academic results to drive cycles of improvement in teaching and learning.

In collaboration with the Office of Catechetical Formation, the Director helps maintain and implement the diocesan religion curriculum. The Director must demonstrate a strong vision for high‑quality K–12 instruction and the expertise to develop instructional leaders across varied roles.

Job Duties:

  • Lead the development, revision, and enhancement of the diocese’s curriculum, drawing on evidence-based instructional practices tailored to students’ needs.
  • Support school leaders in ensuring implementation of quality curriculum, in accordance with Ohio Catholic School Accrediting Association (OCSAA) standards. This includes alignment with Ohio Department of Education (ODEW) academic standards as well as the integration of the Catholic faith according to diocesan expectations.
  • Develop and advance a cohesive vision for high-quality teaching and learning that aligns with the diocese’s vision for Academic Excellence.
  • Maintain and expand the diocese’s recommendations for high-quality instructional materials in core academic areas.
  • Support OCE in developing and implementing a program of high-quality, targeted professional development for Catholic school leaders and educators.
  • Support the diocesan elementary assessment program of NWEA MAP assessments to ensure participation and completion. In collaboration with diocesan staff, support school leaders in utilizing data effectively to advance academic achievement.
  • Support schools in the creation of clear, measurable outcomes for the students that they serve based on school performance data.
  • Engage in continuous and sustained reflection on instructional practices and leadership behaviors, and adopt and adapt methods and resources as needed to achieve diocesan goals and performance objectives.
