Description: We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Elementary Music Teacher to join our team of dedicated educators. The successful candidate will provide diverse opportunities for students to develop aesthetic sensitivity, nurture self-esteem, increase career awareness, and encourage active and thoughtful participation in music.
As a teacher of Garfield Heights City Schools, you should have a passion for working with students in an urban community and a strong commitment to cultivating creativity, collaboration, and musical excellence. The ideal candidate will demonstrate knowledge of best instructional practices in music education, foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment, and actively contribute to the school community through performances and collaborative programs.

Essential Functions:
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all students
- Effectively manage the classroom and individual student behavior to maintain a productive learning environment
- Prepare clear, timely, and engaging lesson plans aligned to Ohio State Content Standards
- Maintain accurate and complete records as required
- Provide guidance to promote students' educational, cultural, and social-emotional development
- Attend and actively participate in parent/teacher conferences
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with colleagues
- Assess student learning regularly and adjust instruction accordingly
- Provide complete lesson plans for substitutes
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with parents through effective communication (interim reports, report cards, conferences, Progress Book)
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to students' maturity and interests
- Assist administration in implementing procedures and rules governing student life
- Follow the scope and sequence of the instructional program as defined in approved courses of study
- Take necessary precautions to protect equipment, materials, and facilities
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of music content and present clear, accurate instruction using varied instructional techniques and media
- Be present at all required practices and performances
- Coordinate music with drama for seasonal programs and graduation ceremonies
- Oversee and teach music for assemblies and special programs
- Teach music reading, vocal production, rhythm, movement, and stage presence
- Select developmentally appropriate music for each grade level
- Audition students for musical productions as needed
- Keep current with trends in music and arts education
- Assist in planning and revising the comprehensive music curriculum
- Plan activities to meet individual student needs and support grade-level curriculum
- Maintain confidentiality at all times
- Attend meetings and professional development as required
- Incorporate positive behavior supports (PBIS) into daily practice
- Observe the ethics of the teaching profession
- Promote positive public relations for the school and district
- Serve as a role model for students
- Participate on building-level, teacher-based, and/or district-level teams
- Perform assigned duties (bus, lunch, hall, gym, playground, etc.)
- Respond to routine questions and requests in a timely and appropriate manner
- Assist in the selection of music textbooks, instruments, and instructional materials
- Participate in committees, study teams, and co-curricular activities
- Participate in intervention assistance team meetings
- Maintain and improve professional competence through workshops and seminars
- Supervise student teachers as assigned
- Counsel, advise, encourage, and motivate students
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal, Assistant, or designee
- Active and current state of Ohio teaching license in the appropriate content area
- Bachelor's degree in Music Education or a related field from an accredited college or university
- Prior experience teaching instrumental music and directing school bands is preferred
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage various ensembles, including marching band, concert band, and jazz band
- Comfortable working in a performance-based teaching environment with responsibilities including rehearsals, concerts, parades, competitions, and civic events
- High level of comfort working in a collaborative, feedback-rich setting involving observations, coaching, and reflection
- Strong classroom management skills and an ability to motivate and engage students through music
- Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate instructional methods for music education
- Proficient in using music education technology, such as notation software, digital audio tools, and electronic grading systems
