Position: Teaching & Learning Design Technologist 2

The salary range is between $56,395 and $71,340, depending on qualifications, experience, department budgets, and industry data. Employees receive more than a paycheck. POSITION

OBJECTIVE

Under general supervision, work with faculty and school academic leadership at the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences and Teaching and Learning Technologies (TLT) team members to maintain and develop learning modules and courses for use in online, hybrid and residential environments that most effectively meet the needs of the students and faculty within the given cost parameters. Develop training courses to ensure that students and faculty are aware of instructional technologies and how to use them to support effective teaching and learning.

Support faculty in course development by guiding them through standardized course construction and quality review processes. Manage and support enterprise instructional technology solutions, including the learning management system, lecture capture tools, video conferencing platforms, and classroom-based technologies. This role is primarily dedicated to supporting Mandel programs to ensure they meet the specific pedagogical and programmatic needs of social work and nonprofit management education, while also contributing to broader university-wide instructional design initiatives.

Essential

Functions
  • Partner with Mandel faculty to effectively leverage University‑supported technologies to design and develop accessible, high‑quality online, hybrid and residential courses and materials for multi‑modal programs, revise and/or enhance existing courses and materials, and integrate technology into face‑to‑face, blended, and online teaching environments. (40%)
  • Consult with faculty and provide recommendations regarding all aspects of course design and development, including decisions about interface design, course architecture and navigation, content arrangement, sequencing of lessons, use of assessments, and selection of class activities. (20%)
  • Assist faculty with evaluating instructional methods, materials, and technologies. (10%)
  • Design and present professional development and group‑specific workshops for faculty and staff on instructional design topics in face‑to‑face and online environments. (10%)
  • Assist with the creation of accessible and reusable general training materials (e.g., step‑by‑step guides, reference manuals, online modules, web‑based templates, etc.) to be used by faculty and staff engaged in learning and using educational technologies. (10%)
Nonessential Functions
  • Provide support of academic technologies such as the learning management system Canvas, including providing face‑to‑face and virtual support. (3%)
  • Participate in implementing and maintaining university protocols for the naming and storage of online course materials outside of the university's course management system. (2%)
  • Perform other duties as assigned. (5%)
Contact Details

Department:
Daily contact with members of the Teaching & Learning Technologies team to work on projects and support efforts collaboratively. Have frequent contact with others in UTech staff responsible for faculty support, communication, and infrastructure. Have occasional contact with others in the division, including senior leadership.

University:
Daily contact with faculty, students, and staff in the context of workshops and individual consultation.

External:
Occasionally interact with hardware/software vendors to troubleshoot technical issues, coordinate system resolutions, and evaluate the performance of academic applications to ensure they meet the evolving needs of the university community.

Students:
Occasional contact with student employees and interns within the Teaching & Learning Technologies team in UTech.
