Job Title: Instructional Assistant – General Education
Salary Range: $17.34 - $21.08 (2025–2026 rates; updated upon agreement)
Reports to: Building Principal or Designee
Employment Details: 183 days, 6 paid holidays, paid sick leave, paid flexible personal leave (3 days per year). If hired after the start of the school year, days and leave are pro‑rated. The district provides medical, dental, vision, and other benefits.
Job SummaryTo improve student achievement by assisting a licensed teacher in implementing an educational program, providing instructional activities aligned with lesson plans, ensuring a safe, healthy learning environment, and performing additional assigned duties.
Essential Job Functions- Work under a licensed teacher or administrator’s supervision to carry out instructional activities.
- Provide individual and small group instruction and tutoring.
- Support students in developing positive interpersonal relationships.
- Promote student safety through district student‑management and safety guidelines.
- Supervise students during classroom and playground activities to maintain safety and a positive learning environment; intervene when necessary.
- Familiarize with school/district policies governing the work.
- Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
- Maintain classroom equipment, materials, and student files.
- Perform record‑keeping and basic clerical tasks: scheduling, copying, supporting teacher with student files and instructional materials.
- Assist personnel as required to support completion of their work.
- Execute additional tasks as assigned.
- Consult, under teacher supervision, with teachers, parents, and community agencies to assess student progress and implement objectives, maintaining confidentiality.
- Participate in meetings and professional development to share information and improve skills/knowledge.
- Assist with student transitions: supervise to/from bus, loading/unloading, and to/from classes.
Job Requirements – Qualifications
- Education:
Completed associate’s degree or higher (at least two years of study, 72 college quarter hours) or equivalent rigorous standard and demonstrated ability to assist in reading, writing, and mathematics instruction. - Experience:
Prior school‑age child–related experience (paid or volunteer) preferred. - Licenses/Certifications:
Oregon Department of Education Fingerprint Clearance. - Language:
Ability to read/interpret documents, write reports, and speak before groups. - Reasoning:
Solve practical problems, interpret written/oral instructions. - Skills:
Work well with others, respect confidentiality and maintain professional judgment, handle diverse populations and cultures, excel in team building, manage conflict. - Computer:
Proficiency with word processing, database programs, and Google Suite. - Attendance:
Regular and punctual, confer with supervisor, follow district policies and procedures.
Regularly required to talk, hear, walk, sit, use hands for fine manipulation, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift/move up to 50 pounds. Vision: close, distance, color, peripheral.
Terms of EmploymentEmployment term of 9+ months, evaluated annually per Board policy.
