Open Date DescriptionThe Department of Nutrition is seeking a graduate student to serve as teaching assistant for NTRN 344/444-Personalized Nutrition:
Genes and Diet in Health and Disease Prevention. Graduate teaching assistant responsibilities will include the following:
- Grading homework, quizzes, and/or exams
- In-class assistance with labs and activities
- Holding office hours as needed
This course meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00-11:15 a.m. It is preferred that the GTA attend class, but this can be discussed with the instructor. Depending upon student interest and performance and at the instructor’s discretion, opportunities may be available to work with the instructor to assist with developing and delivering lectures as a professional development opportunity.
Time Commitment and Compensation
While hours will vary from week to week, the time commitment is expected to be around 5 hours weekly. Student employees are not permitted to work during scheduled meeting times for classes in which they are enrolled and cannot exceed 20 hours per week between all campus jobs held. Please note that PhD students in the School of Medicine must obtain written permission from their PIs or graduate program directors prior to accepting an hourly TA position.
Hourly Rate
The graduate teaching assistant will be paid $15.60-20 per hour, depending on experience.
TA training is required by the Office of the Provost for all undergraduate and graduate students who will be serving as UTAs or GTAs. This training consists of a series of online modules that must be completed in Canvas at the beginning of the semester in which you start working as a TA. Additional information can be found on the UCITE TA training website.
Students are not paid for their time during this training.
Eligible students must:
- Be enrolled at least half-time in a CWRU graduate program.
- PhD students are preferred, but MS students are welcome to apply.
- Students enrolled in programs related to nutrition, biology, genetics, and any related field are especially encouraged to apply.
- Be eligible for hourly campus employment through the Office of Student Employment.
