Job Description SUMMARYThe Logic tutor works directly with students, either one-on-one or in small group sessions, aiming to foster independent learning and help students achieve their academic goals.
To be effective in this role, tutors should have knowledge from courses such as:
- Critical Thinking
- Philosophy
- Ethics
- Bioethics
- Business Ethics
Other tutoring topics covered: principles of formal logic, application of logic to the evaluation of arguments, concepts of implication and proof, and modern techniques of analysis.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Support the department’s goal of providing students with supplemental academic support by ensuring quality and accessibility of tutoring services.
- Provide one-on-one and small group tutoring support.
- Offer subject-specific content strategies, attuned to different learning styles and preferences, to help students understand key concepts learned in class.
- Provide direct assistance in the use of equipment and learning materials needed for students’ success.
- Conduct “class visits” and assist with publicizing the College’s tutoring services.
- Assist with the maintenance of accurate records in accordance with stated deadlines.
- Complete all necessary paperwork accurately and according to stated deadlines.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of departmental instructional materials.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Education consistent with the department needs and a minimum of an associate’s degree in a related field of study.
- Demonstrated knowledge and competence in the subject matter.
- Ability to explain concepts to others effectively.
- Ability to multitask with varying levels of students and subject material.
- Ability to communicate with faculty regarding expectations of students, assignments, attendance at tutoring sessions and work completed.

- The work is performed in a normal, professional office environment.
- The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated.
- The employee may sit comfortably to perform the duties of the job and will perform repetitive motions with hands/fingers using a computer mouse and keyboard to type. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, books, etc.
- Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite.
Set-Rate Non-Bargaining Part-Time Position. This is a part‑time non‑bargaining unit position, with a set rate of pay: $18.03 per hour.
