Position Summary

The Adjunct Instructor – Building Maintenance & Repair is responsible for providing hands-on instruction and practical learning experiences in basic building maintenance, repair, and facility-related skills. This position combines technical knowledge and real-world experience with the ability to teach, coach, and engage learners in a supportive and practical learning environment. The instructor will teach participants foundational skills related to the care, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of residential and/or commercial buildings and systems.

Instruction may include classroom discussion, demonstrations, hands-on activities, projects, and supervised practice.

Some of the duties include:

  • Develop and deliver engaging, hands-on instruction related to building maintenance and repair
  • Teach foundational skills, techniques, and safety practices based on industry best practice standards, in a manner appropriate to the learner population
  • Demonstrate proper use, care, and maintenance of materials, equipment, and tools
  • Provide clear demonstrations and opportunities for participants to practice newly learned skills
  • Adapt instructional methods to accommodate different learning styles, skill levels, and abilities
  • Create a learning environment that encourages participation, questions, problem-solving, and skill development
  • Provide constructive feedback and coaching to help participants build confidence and competency
  • Monitor participant progress and communicate concerns, accomplishments, and areas for additional support to program leadership
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized instructional environment.
  • Ability to maintain a safe and well-equipped learning environment by ensuring tools, equipment, and instructional materials are properly maintained and promptly addressing or reporting damaged, missing, or unsafe items.
Qualifications

Our ideal candidate is an experienced building maintenance and repair professional with at least three years of hands-on experience in building maintenance, construction, skilled trades, or a related field. The candidate will have practical knowledge across multiple areas of building repair and maintenance, along with the ability to teach and engage diverse learners in a hands-on environment. Trade school, technical certification, apprenticeship, or other relevant training is preferred, as is experience developing hands-on instruction or curriculum.

Experience working in residential, commercial, institutional, or nonprofit facilities are highly valued.
