Overview

TITLE: Senior Energy Engineer

LOCATION: Middleburg Heights, OH (open to candidates within a 2-3 hour radius of Cleveland, OH, including Toledo, Dayton, Detroit, Pittsburgh, and surrounding areas)

TRAVEL: Up to 30% for worksite visits; remote candidates must work on-site at BG Headquarters in Middleburg Heights, OH, at least once per week.

ELIGIBILITY: U.S. Citizens only (Federal Contractor)

Role Description

We are seeking a Senior Energy Engineer to lead energy conservation and efficiency projects that make a measurable impact. This role combines technical depth with project leadership – ideal for someone passionate about designing smarter, more sustainable systems across HVAC, building automation, lighting, and renewable technologies. As part of a collaborative, solutions-driven team, you ll partner with experts across disciplines to deliver innovative energy projects for commercial, institutional, and government clients nationwide.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development, design, and implementation of energy conservation projects for large and complex facilities.
  • Conduct energy audits, analyze utility data, and develop defensible energy and cost savings calculations.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (sales, engineering, estimating, and project management) throughout design and delivery.
  • Present technical findings and project recommendations to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Stay current with emerging energy technologies, regulations, and best practices.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to Energy Engineers and project team members.
  • Support project execution from concept through completion, ensuring quality and accuracy in all deliverables.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in energy engineering, with expertise in HVAC systems, building automation, renewable energy, or central plant design.
  • Experience across multiple sectors (healthcare, education, government, or industrial) strongly preferred.
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and/or Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • Prior leadership, supervisory, or mentorship experience a plus.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation; ability to travel up to 50%.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to pass an FBI background check due to federal contract requirements.
