:
The Service Modernization Project Manager is responsible for planning, executing, and successfully delivering overhead crane service modernization projects from order handoff through completion. The Service Modernizations Project Manager serves as the primary liaison between the customer and Mazzella, ensuring projects are executed safely, on schedule, within scope, and in alignment with commercial and operational expectations.
This is a working Project Manager role requiring hands-on technical involvement and a strong working knowledge of overhead crane electrical systems, mechanical components, runway systems, and crane-supporting structural interfaces. The role supports large-scale and complex modernization projects and plays a critical role in transferring technical knowledge, scope intent, and execution strategy to the field technician base.
Please note this position is remote with approximately 50 - 75% travel across the United States to serve regional customers. Travel depends on project load and geographic assignment.
Responsibilities- Manage large-scale overhead crane service and modernization projects from kickoff through project closure
- Serve as the primary point of contact between the customer and Mazzella throughout the project lifecycle
- Review project scope, drawings, specifications, and contracts to ensure alignment with customer and internal expectations
- Coordinate project planning activities including scheduling, manpower planning, material procurement, subcontractor coordination, and site readiness
- Provide technical guidance related to electrical, mechanical, crane, and runway structural systems during project execution
- Actively participate as a working Project Manager, supporting field teams with troubleshooting, clarification of scope, and on-site coordination as required
- Facilitate effective knowledge transfer to technicians and field supervisors, including project intent, safety considerations, technical requirements, and execution sequencing
- Lead project kickoff meetings and routine progress meetings with customers, internal teams, and subcontractors
- Monitor project costs, labor hours, material usage, and schedule adherence to ensure financial and operational performance
- Identify risks, scope changes, and field issues; develop and communicate mitigation plans
- Manage change orders in coordination with sales, engineering, and operations teams
- Ensure compliance with all applicable safety policies, site requirements, and regulatory standards
- Maintain accurate project documentation, schedules, and status reporting
- Support post-project closeout activities including punch lists, documentation turnover, and customer satisfaction follow-up
- Other duties as assigned
Education
:
Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university with a focus in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or related discipline preferred. In the absence of a degree, directly related experience managing industrial service or modernization projects may offset the degree requirement.
- Experience & Skills
: - Five plus years of experience managing large-scale industrial service, modernization, or construction projects, preferably involving overhead cranes or heavy industrial equipment
- Demonstrated working knowledge of: overhead crane electrical and control systems; mechanical crane components and assemblies; runway systems and crane-supporting structures
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in active industrial environments
